I use a regular snap-on collar for Gracie. I am having issues with her not walking well with me on the leash. She zig-zags everywhere and goes in front of me. I know she needs to be on my left side and to follow me or be beside me. Do you have any good luck with a particular type collar or leash? I love this dog more every day! We are having a blast with her!

Madoc uses a regular snap-on for puppy kindergarten, but when we walk him for exercise we use a harness. I wouldn't want to pull at his neck accidentally or if I had to lift him suddenly. Now that he is just over 20 weeks, he seems to be getting the point of trotting alongside us, but we had wondered when it would happen! Someone said that herding dogs were more "sprinters" than steady walkers, so we would go by fits and starts. He definitely has a mind of his own, and I am a little lenient at this stage about letting him pick directions. I'll probably get scolded by the puppy kindergarten teacher!
A harness is the way to go. I use one with Teddy and it makes it so much easier for both of us. I'm not pulling on his neck and I find with a harness it is much easier to control him.
I agree, the harness has worked the best with Barkley. We used to use a collar that would pull tight when he was pulling but we really didn't like it because it really wasn't helping and he'd just choke himself. We got the puppia sport harness, it's easy to put on him and we really like it.
