I thought I'd start a discussion to get to know everyone's taste a little better. What genre do you read most? Do you have a favorite topic (ie love, vampires, pirates, fairies etc)? Please share a little about yourself. :)

I read classics, history and biography's and on occasion a newly published fictional piece. I was reading the Stephanie Plum series and found them fun but found myself wanting to read something else with my limited time. A girlfriend of mine gave me another series by Janet Evanovich. I read all those so I've had my fill of romance mysteries for awhile. I have a long list plus a stack of books next to my night stand waiting to be read.
I like the classics too but admittedly have not read many. I own the majority of them I just need to get caught up. :)
I have read the Stephainie Plum series. I think they would make good movies(for tv, not nec big screen) I always picture Sandra Bullock as Stephanie and Sherri Shepherd as Lulu(a?) brain fart sorry lol. and Dewayne Johnston as Ranger lol.
I read mostly fiction of various types. I enjoy some fantasy as long as it's not too hokey or outlandish, some mystery, the occasional horror. I'll read anything from classics to new fiction but I avoid romance novels and "chick-lits" like the plague. I also enjoy mythology, psychology and some history.

Specific topics I'm a sucker for are fairies and Irish folklore, vampires, mystical/paranormal. These are always fun reads for me that I can't resist though I know I won't find any literary masterpieces on such topics except for the rare Phantom of the Opera or Portrait of Dorian Gray.
There is very little I won't read! I like a variety. I tend to gravitate towards crime/courtroom stuff and historical novels. I have read many Phillipa Gregory novels and all of Balduccis(spelling?). I also like the Reader's Digest Condensed books because they include authors I would not have tried. I read the Twilight series and enjoyed it. Loved Diana Gabaldon's series and I just got her new one. It is a fun historical novel with time travel involved. Often read biographies of people I think are interesting. I can spend hours in a book store!
I'm a sucker for epic novels and absolutely adore historical fiction. Some favorite authors: Michael Chabon, Glen David Gold, Patrick Suskind, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Daniel Wallace, Jonathan Safran Foer.

David Sedaris always makes me laugh out loud and can turn any bad day around. Dry by Augusten Burroughs had me bawling on the bus.

I am also a huge magic geek and love reading magician biographies or histories of magic.
Jessica, thanks for listing some authors, I've been wanting to get into historical fiction.
My two favorites in that genre are the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (Pulitzer prize winner) and Carter Beats the Devil. They blend the fictional and non-fictional elements so well that you almost forget which is which.
I love all kinds of books, but I'm getting into mysteries lately. Charlaine Harris is a favorite. After I read all of her Sookie Stackhouse novels, I made it a point to seek out everything else she's ever written, and most of it is mysteries.

Also, I'm new here so I'm not sure if anyone has posted this already, but has anyone read any of the Melanie Travis mysteries? One of them, entitled Doggie Day Care Murder, has cute little corgis all over the cover!

she is one of my favorite authors. I started reading her this summer and read about the first half of her series, then I skipped ahead to the doggy daycare book. I was very sad to hear she wasn't doing anymore Melanie Travis books.
Oh how cute! Another one to add to my list!
I read them all and loved them! Was pretty bummed when I heard she was done with the Melanie Travis books.
