Saw Star Trek last night and here are my thoughts:

1. I was a little worried that JJ might messed it up like he did with Cloverfield, but wow was I wrong! good job JJ, it's a great reboot to the series.

2. I did see a little pause, stare in space then talk (Shatner Style) in Chris Pine :)

3. Nimoy, I'm sooooo glad you're in this project!!!

4. Zachary Quinto, I totally see the Sylar in you when Spock lost it.

5. Simon Pegg, you continue to do what you do best, you brought a fresh Scotty!

6. John Cho, I'm so glad people finally see you beyond "Harold" or milf, I've followed your career since "better luck tomorrow", so glad you got this break out role. George will always be Sulu, but it's fresh to see a younger version who kicks ass.

7. Jimmy Bennett - young JTK, you're the man, anyone who rocks Beastie Boys in a corvette then slow mo jumps off is awesome in my book :) Don't fall off the radar like Anakin -Jake Lloyd.

8. Whoever is going to do the next star trek movie, I'm so sorry.

It may sound silly, but I'm so glad they kept the mini-skirts. They were so stupid originally, but this film stayed true!

I was shocked, just shocked, at the reference to what happened to "Admiral Archer's beagle." Scotty DID deserve to be deserted. (My son assures me that Porthos will turn up eventually.)

So much more I could say. I loved it, even though I consider alternate realities a cheat.

I have been veggie out on Star Trek the animated series (1974) for a while now so I was really excited to see this movie... I was not disappointed!!!!! A Beastie Boys song at the beginning?!!!! Oh yeah!!! Usually even during the greatest movies(ex: Coraline) I get bored in one place or another. This one I loved all the way through.I see potential for another adventure and hope it is done as well. The guy who played Bones really got all those little facial expressions and mannerisms. I can't wait to get the DVD.
Star Trek was awesome!!! Best movie I've seen this year!

Oh, and Sam you forgot:

9. Karl Urban did a fantastic Doctor McCoy! When I saw his name after the movie, I was like "Hey! That's Eomer!" He was so good, I didn't even realize it was the same actor.

Edit: Arrow and Pengu already mentioned it :)
I think I must be in the minority of people who didn't like it. But then, I went in jaded since don't like anything that Abrams has done, so there was no real surprise there. My boyfriend and his dad didn't like it either. And they're both dedicated fans. His dad used to watch it when he was a kid and it was still a brand new show, and has loved every series that they have ever came out with since then, until this.

I saw it down in Georgia with my brother right before he graduated to get out of basic, and when we walked out of the theater, I came out feeling like I had watched a cross between Star Wars and Star Trek. Horribly confused and disappointed. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who felt the need to change the relationship and dynamics between Spock and Kirk obviously didn't like or appriciate how it was done originally. I also didn't like how the characters were, imho, trying so hard to be badass. As my boyfriend put it, in the originals, they didn't have to try because they were and they knew it.

And as for who is doing the next one, it's going to be JJ Abrams. Again. And it's due out in 2011.
To help me understand your disappointment with the movie, what recent scifi/fantasy film did you enjoy? That way I can gauge your taste. When I discuss the enjoyment factor of a newer sci fi movie or a remake, I always take into consideration the quality of movies that are generally put out today ex: transformers. "whew, at least it wasn't as crappy as Transformers!"
