We've had Pippa since she was 12 weeks, so she adapted to trips and camping fairly easily. Dante is over 1 and has never gone before...and from what I gathered talking to the guy we got him from he has never really been anywhere other than a back yard until he came to us.

We are planning our first one-night camping trip of the summer, and I'm worried about how he may handle it. Are there any tips or tricks for taking an older dog camping for the first time? He is calm and laid-back, but he's never done anything even close to camping before.

My twins were 6 on their first camping trip (They were 5 when we adopted them). Neither had left the yard before they came to us, so I made sure they took baby steps, with hikes and trips out. They did alright their first trip, but we did take along their beds and a toy. It took a long time for Tucker to settle down that first night. Even now when we camp he is not thrilled. he gets nervous with any change in his schedule. I guess he would rather sleep on a real bed than the ground too. Abby loves camping a lot more than Tucker. I think it's the food, haha.

I'm thinking about a spot really close to home that he goes to frequently. That way there is something familiar for him. I hope he likes it! I would hate to fine a dog-sitter for just one of them.
