My husband and I are planning a 9,000 mile expedition around the USA. Pretty much off-road camping in all different National parks. I was wondering if anyone has done something like this before and…Continue

Just joined and see that some others have camped this summer in the U.P. of MI, from where we just returned. Fun trip! We stayed at McLain State Park (wonderful view of Lake Superior) and Fayette Historic State Park (restored iron smelting town on site for great walks). Chester got to tag along to see Keweenah Peninsula, Porcupine Mts, Presque Isle Falls, Tahquamenon Falls, Grand Sable Dunes, and Mackinac Island. :)
Here's our camp at 7500' on the summit of Mt. Hinman, central Washington Cascades. For climbers, this is a rather weenie ascent, but it does involve serious ice ax, crampon snow travel and dog belay. It took us over 10 hrs. to get here, and we go fast. July 20, perfect weather, but it was windy, and not tent or anything. Who needs a tent when you have a corgi inside your sleeping bag?
We would love to try a UP trip maybe this summer. For July we are just going to the Petoskey area which is well located for Mackinaw Island and a few other areas we like. We are traveling in a big Rv so need places that can handle us. We don't rough it anymore :)
Hi Bev! Where are you headed in Northern Michigan? I'm a proud Yooper and Nora & I just got back from a camping trip at FJ McLain State Park in the Keweenaw. Definitely recommend it! Truly beautiful up there!
Just returned from another short weekend trip and we all had fun. Izzy and Misty got lots of attention at the beach. In 2 weeks we leave for a month long trip to northern Michigan and we can not wait!
