Before bringing our fluffy Harley home at the end of July, we did research on fluffies, and heard that fluffies don't shed as much as regular coated Corgis. Harley was 11 weeks when he came home, and for about the first month, there was very little shedding. We would brush him with a slicker about every other day, and there would be hardly any hair on the brush. We would see none of his hairs left behind on the furniture or our clothes.

But, about 2 weeks ago, Harley started shedding like mad. We brush him almost every day, and we get a good handful of hair on the brush. Plus, we are finding his fine black hairs on our furniture and clothes. I really doubt it has to do with the weather, as it technically still Summer, and dogs will normally shed heavier in the Spring when it gets warmer.

We are baffled by this. Harley doesn't shed nearly as much as our beagle mix does, but why the sudden change in shedding?

Any ideas, or shedding stories of your own to share?

My dogs literally blow coat (molt) in October. It's really dreadful once a year. I finally, in self defense, purchased a Furminator. It's that undercoat that is coming up and off....
Harley might be loosing his puppy coat and getting more of an adult coat. As far as fluffs shedding less than flat-coated corgis, that is SO true. I didn't reallly know the difference until I spent some time with my Mom's dogs. Geesh! It was riduculous! I so love Twinkie's coat and how cute she looks all fluffed up. We still do a lot of brushing and always get handfuls of hair. We joke that we could knit another corgi out of what comes off her :o) Hope you continue to have a great time with Harley. He's da bomb!
I find when they are puppies they hardly shed at all (long coat and normal coat) until they get their adult coat. In fact Muddy (6 months fluffy) has just started losing hair this past month but it's just his puppy coat, not 'real' shedding of the undercoat.

Once Harley has fully transitioned to adult coat then his shedding will become more regular; usually 2 big sheds a year (end of summer/end of winter) and just a lot of hair floating around the house between them.
