We just had a 5.0 (unconfirmed) earthquake epicentered in Lennox, CA which is just a few miles north of where I live. This is the 2nd earthquake in a few weeks and my boys, Steve and Scott, are handling it quite differently. Scott, the younger one acts like nothing happned (I think he slept through it). Steve on the other hand freaked out and refuses to go back upstairs - he's barking at the slightest sound and insists on staying by the front door.

How did your corgis handle the earthquake?

We felt the earthquake as well! We're in the Beverly Hills area. Winnie was in her crate at the time. She just sat up and stared into space during the earthquake and for a couple minutes afterwards. Then she lay back down.

I tried to act as if it weren't a big deal- I think how the humans act can make a big difference in how the dogs act!
Phoebe and our new little foster barked for about a minute. Yoli, who was in daddy's lap, did take much notice of it at all. We calmed the other two with words & lap time. They seemed to relax in a short time.
A couple minutes before the earthquake Trice went to the door and started barking. We checked to see who it was and it was noone! I remember seeing a tv special on how animals can sense natural disasters coming. Maybe this was one of those times?

During the quake, he looked fine. Afterwards he was very clingly to me. He was probably shooken up (pun intended) by the whole thing!
