Hi Guys,
My friends and I are thinking about opening up a doggy daycare / boarding in the LA area, and we are just brainstorming some ideas! I was hoping to get some input from you guys =D

There are a few very good day cares, but most are horrible! I am so picky about where to take my baby and I feel like I can make a much better place than what is available!

I would like to hear from all you doggy (corgi) lovers,
1. what you would like to see in day cares that you don't see!
2. what is the most important thing to you for going to a day care ( price, people, enviornment, etc.. )
3. what do you hate about some day cares you see?

Anything/ any ideas or just thoughts would be wonderful, Thanks!

If this whole thing pulls through (which we had been thinkin about for half a year now, it probably will), anyone from mycorgi.com will have super special treatments (discounts, goodies etc.. )!!! =D

Wow! Hope it works out! Here is my wish list:
1. Good hours 7 am to 9:00 (without charging for more than 8 hours)
2. CLEAN
3. Nice staff & 2 to 3 staff members with the dogs - not just 1 person to supervise 10 to 20 dogs
4. Video to view our dogs during the day or evening
5. No need for fancy stuff (pools etc - not really necessary - dogs in general don't care about those things)
6. Keeping small and large dogs separate
7. Good location (West Pasadena)
8. Parking
9. Indoors and outdoors (I don't like the idea of keeping my dogs inside all day - which I can do at home for free)
10. Reasonable packages (i.e. payment in advance should have discount plus discounts for more than 1 dog)

Good Luck!
I would also recommend that you talk to other dog trainers...they would provide some really good suggestions.
thanks for the input aileen!!
Just came across this site for Indoor Agility Center Franchise...something to thing about. www.zoomroomonline.com. This will work great in the San Gabriel Valley area.
Hi Irene and Pancake!

And thank you, Arlene, for sharing the Zoom Room link with fellow Corgi lovers. I'm actually one of the owners of the Zoom Room. Although I don't personally have a Corgi at home (I have a giant mop of a Komondor) - we LOVE Corgis and currently we have eleven of them who come in to our flagship location in Culver City. They are so remarkable on the agility training course.

We are indeed offering Zoom Room franchises all around the country - in forty states - and we're the only brick-and-mortar dog training franchise in the U.S. The Pasadena/Glendale area is a perfect location and we'd be delighted to talk to you further.

If anyone's interested, you can learn more on our site about the Zoom Room pet franchise. Or feel free to call 1-877-ZOOM-ROOM.

And for any Corgi owners who haven't tried agility yet... do it!

Cheers,
Mark
I take both my Corgi, Tegan, and Lyla, my Great Dane to The Loved Dog. I think it's set up really nice, so I would do things similar to how it's done there. Cage free, lots of furniture and agility equipment for the dogs to play with in the main run, the people are EXTREMELY sweet and have dogs themselves and treat the dogs like their own, and a beautiful set up... simple but gorgeous. I love the big windows in which you can see your dogs play candidly when you drop off/pick up, or are just driving by and want to check in.... yeaaah, I am THAT owner. lol

I think one thing I'd like to see in more day cares that I looked at, and why i ended up choosing Loved Dog, is spaces for older dogs who aren't really WILD about playing but still need a place to go and be looked after all day. A quiet area to themselves or one other dog, where people can watch them and give them love and attention. My great dane is an older girl, and she is unhappy if I leave her at day cares where she has to socialize too long cause she gets sick of being with all the other dogs all the time. Loved Dog rotates where she goes, so she is rejuvenated after a few hours and ready to scamper around again! She is usually down playing when I get there, but stays up with the quieter and older dogs on a bed for a few hours a day- BUT NOT IN A CAGE! I hated that when I looked at others, it was like "If you're dog gets testy, she goes in a crate."

Price at Loved Dog is really steep, I's like 20 - 25 a day... unless they are there less than 4 hrs, then like 15! Loved Dog is 20 for 4 hours, 25 for a whole day for a corgi, and 25 for 4 hours and 35 for a day for a dog 30lbs +.... and I hate when they charge you more for a big dog. It's honestly not THAT different for them WHAT size they are... except perhaps complaining about the size of the poo? heehee.

I hope that you are successful! I have been thinking of opening a dog boarding/day care/ training place in 10+ years when I am out of college and have more worldly expereince ;)

Where is this place going to be located? :) Tegan would love to attend!
