I work as a lobbyist-not a bad thing! LIve the rural life with Corgis, rescue dogs, horses, chickens, cats. Two beautiful grown daughters. If I had my choice I would quit my job, stay at the farm and raise corgis and horses!
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
We are honored by the presence of Lizzie (Q Lizzie Beth) and Fergie(FCF's Royal Ferguson) and Brodie (FCF's Little Bonanza Brodie). Recent additions to the family are Fern (puppy mill rescue and princess), Poppit (blind rescue), and accidental addition Sherman--my failure as a foster mom! Lizzie is our 7 year old Black-headed tri-color Corgi. True to the breed. It is like living with a cartoon charactor. Fergie is our three-year-old Red/White female and a real snuggle bug. Brodie is a black headed tri who is 1.5-years old. Fern is a 4-year-old red/white Corgi that was rescued from a puppy mill in January 2008 and was in Foster Care for six months! She has some special needs, but has adapted beautifully! She is quite the charmer. We celebrated her one year anniversary with us in May 09. Poppit has been with us for just a couple of months. She is a red-headed tri and she is completely blind-juvinile cataracts and small eyes--the result of poor breeding. We are working on her social skills and she is coming along. Sherman (formerly known as Denver) is a 15 month old red and white bundle of love and energy.
There is an Ikea here and we're not too far from it. We just moved here from DC last year, so we're still adjusting from the city to the suburbs -- but Taylor loves his new back yard :-)
It's so funny -- I was born and raised in FL and my husband's from TX, so we didn't grow up in snow. We've only lived in the north for the last 3 years, but I've come to love the snow after seeing Taylor's initial reaction to it. He LOVES it and puts his nose down and kind of snorkels it - it's hysterical.
But luckily I do not have to commute to DC every day (I go in about 2-3 times a week on average) and I get to work from home (more time with my pup!). We moved to Woodbridge for my husband's job.
Still looking for our new Corgi addition, we haven't devoted a lot of time during the cold winter months. As soon as the snow is gone and warmer weather settles in we will be actively looking for our addition.
thanks for the comment to kaley's newest video...ooo yes, kaley corgi keeps me guessing and always on my toes! She certainly is the spark of my life!
smiles : )
ps, i read your new member blog...how sad this had to happen...some people do not think, or maybe they do not care.... i am glad you did something about it!
Thanks so much for the nice hello! Bailey and I feel lucky to have found so many corgi lovin' friends - wow!!! Look at all the pretty pups around here! Yours are gorgeous!!
I hear ya! My coats are covered in his hair, and people frequently ask if I have a cat. I even bought a coat that was lighter so it wouldn't be so noticeable!
Hi Kristen thank you for the welcome. Your blog is very interesting. My area we do not have traps so I never realized this was going on any more. Keep up the good work. I love the pictures.

Well, I can only tell you the "in general" and how my cardi has been. We got him as a puppy and he was a bundle of energy just like any puppy, but MUCH calmer than say a Lab puppy. I didn't have my Pem when she was a puppy so I can't compare and contrast that. But as he's grown older, he's not as outgoing as our Pem is with strangers. He's fine to allow people to pet him, but is reserved. He's a loon around other dogs though! No dog is a stranger to him and all other dogs are viewed as potential playmates. But it's my understanding that Cardis are considered more reserved than Pems. A bit more laid back and not as quick to warm up to strangers as Pems. Very sweet, loving and loyal though. High energy herding dogs though. My boy runs with me, herds, does agility and is very active.
The exact description of our Pem! Drop the ears and wiggle the butt! In fact we call her "wiggle butt" all the time. When Dudley meets a stranger his ears go down and he'll slowly creep up to them. He's not the most confident of dogs. But once he sniffs them and decides they're okay, he's done. He just turns and walks away. People are always so sad because he is so handsome they want to pet him and he's indifferent.
Thank you for the wonderful comments! Your pups are adorable, too!! I see you have a fairly new addition...I'm slowly trying to convince my husband we need to add a third to the pack!! :-D
Thanks for the comment Kristen! I'm from northeast Kansas and I always loved going to Omaha, Nebraska to visit the zoo as a kid. Anyway, your corgis are adorable!
Hi there, my wife will be showing both our dachshund Jasmine and our new corgi boy Snowy. My son will be with her but I'll have to work. I should be able to make it to the qwest center show. If you see them say Hi
Kristen, I envy your life! So full and rewarding. The animals are fine. Roscoe continues to "flood" the floors, but wee wee pads help. Lovely weather a few days, then rain, rain, tornado watch last night with marble sized hail! Ugly today. Wish I could get to Iowa to rescue a corgi or 2 from the puppy mill raid. With kids leaving nest I need a "baby" again. Nice to hear from a fellow "senior" (I'm 56....can't believe I actually told you this!) Keep in touch. Penny
:-) Maybe one day we'll be brave enough to give another one a try! (Though I don't think our kitties will be too happy about it!) Right now, we're dealing with Hammy's hip dysplasia :-( Trying to prevent it from getting any worse (he's still so young), but he's sad he can't run in the yard for a while..
Yeah, I have learned that next time we'll definitely want to have the parents of our pup certified before we look to adopt. That's exciting you're looking to breed yours...every once in a while I think it'd be something we'd like to do when we have more time and money, I'm sure it's a lot of work. You'll have to let me know how it goes! Who knows, maybe one day we'll happen to be in Nebraska at just the right time to check out a litter ;-)
Aww...a bunch of tiny corgs would be so cute!
Ahh the Gallatin... I went to college near there (Bozeman). Thanks for the advice on the fencing. Do you happen to know of a website where I can get a gate kit for the wire fencing?
It's actually my tri color Louie that was trying to sneek a drink from my pint of Guiness. We that it was so funny we had to take a pic being they were both black and tanned colored.
Nice to know we are so close! We also have a Cedar address but a phone number from Prague! I don't get how they do that! Every call I have to make is long distance!
We don't know alot of people from Cedar, and now that our boys are graduated from high school, we only go there to the Post Office!
How is everybody in Nebraska? Warm yet? When I see Brodie's pic he reminds me of Roscoe when he was a baby. Took him and Pen to vet today for heartworm, etc. He hasn't been vaccinated per vet's advice but wanted to take care of heartworm situation at least. I took my oldest son Aaron with us thank goodness. Roscoe hadn't been there in over a year and was terrified! The vet and techs were wonderful with him but a little muzzle sent him over the edge. Was thrashing around so wildly was afraid he would smack his head and kill himself. Took the thing off and he calmed down a little, but he was panting and slobbering so much I almost lost it to see him like that. My son sent me outside and after 25 minutes they were able to get enough blood for the test. Took them to DQ for doggie cups! With him not being neutered he's getting a little aggressive. So afraid he might eventually get too bad to handle. Usually am ok with this, but today was draining and made me think of his future and mine without him. Thanks for listening. Know you understand. Penny
Kristen, Sounds like you've been having fun. I loved when my son Zach played ball (only little league). Going to the little township parks and cheering on! What good times. Did your doggies catch any fly balls? Ha.
nice weather still. Everythings ok now with R. Probably forgot everything that happened to him at the vet! Good. Read your remark about tail docking. Was always soooo against altering pets to look a certain way, but that stumpy butt is so charming. We've always had dogs with great tails! Roscoe's hair has that little "bee stinger" you mentioned. When he gets excited and tries to wag, that stump goes up higher and cracks me up. Take Care. Penny
Sorry to hear that. Very sorry for your lose. Snowy did pretty good on Sunday. He got beat by a Champion dog in the final round for the Pembroke's but the judge told us it was very very close and almost gave us the points. We are really excited since this weekend was his first show. Can't wait to get him back out. I know that he will be at the Qwest Center show in Omaha this coming July.
Thanks for your comments. I sometimes think we are insane to have 6 dogs but I would really be lost without them. They are all different personality wise. Your corgie's are adorable. I think thats why we wanted one (having 5 dogs already 4 heelers and one jack russell) because they are absolutely beautiful dogs and have such character.
Kristen, how are you and the 4 footed children? Brodie must be getting bigger. Roscoe's HTWM check was negative, so good so far. I look at other "adult" corgis and when I compare, he seems to still have that puppy look about him which is ok with me. Looking for a job, but....not much luck so far. My Zach moved to MackinacIsland for a summer job so this will be my first Mother's Day without all my kids...kind of bummed about that, but what can you do? Everything here is green and luscious and growing, finally, yeah. Will put in some veggie plants in a week or so, yum. Take care and have a wonderful Mother's Day. Penny
Hi Kristen! Would you mind checking in on GoCorgi when you have a couple extra minutes? There is a member (Bienchen) whose dog (Ein) was hit be a car two days ago and Ein's pelvis was broken in two places. I'm sure she would love to hear any advice you have from having a similar experience with Basil. Thanks! Hope all is well with your crew. : - )
Oh my goodness! I guess vehicles are a big fear! Charlie doesn't go off leash since we take walks down a fairly busy city street. He did scare me once, when he slipped his collar with lots of cars coming. Fortunately he just sat there. It surprised me he didn't go darting off.
I read your post on GoCorgi about Lizzie. It's hard for an animal-lover to believe that anyone could hit a dog or cat and not stop at the closest house, instead just drive off. Very happy that she made a full recovery and is lively and playful! : - ) Thanks for posting. I'm sure your information is very helpful to Bienchen.
Kristen, someone once warned me that I should NEVER live on a farm or ranch. As I am country girl at heart through and through, this greatly confused me. They later explained that it was because they knew that if I had the space... I would fill it. I read your post about the airdale. I wanted to tell you that I appreciate your concern and love for animals and your willingness to do something about it! I greatly admire you.
Well I know you feel bad about Lizzie, but don't feel too bad. My last dog's stomach flipped last summer (torsion/bloat) and I still feel guilty about it like there was something I should have done differently. It is sad, but unfortunate things just happen sometimes beyond our control.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I guess I am cool enough to own a corgi, although people keep asking me if he's a shepherd mix. ;) Guess they're kinda uncommon in my area.
