About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

baby

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

    Hi There--
She's not getting that much better. I'm not giving her anymore steak now. (Since we have a Borzoi pup who only eats dog food. It's not fair to him to keep smelling that yummy stuff and not getting any.) So I'm giving her dry biscuits with dog meat. She's only licked the meat off of the biscuits so far but, she's eaten one bowl of biscuits and meat two days ago. But, other than that, she hasn't touched that much, mainly licking the meat off of the biscuits or eating a biscuit or two. She's starting to beg for our food now which is driving me crazy since she has a full bowl of food of her own. She has a vet appointment on the 24th, so hopefully this vet will be able to help me. Thank you!
  • mikonami

Don't be embarrassed about what you fed him! As long as he's loved, it's all good. Btw, I love his tail! My baby's isn't docked...but all she has is a nub.
  • Jackie & Jake

Thank you. Being new to the corgi community we weren't sure when and where we could go to get together with other corgi's. We appreciate it and will most likely see you soon!
  • Steph

Hey! Thank you! It's great to get to chat to people with other corgi's! I don't know anyone (other than my breeder) who has one! I was very lucky to get Arabella. I have been on a waiting list for quite some time now :)
  • Linda and Kaijuu Le

thanks for commenting! no, the person is not from this site, otherwise thats just HORRIBLE! and yes, all corgi's are adorable :D
  • Megan and Penelope

Penelope is 11 weeks old. The vet was worried that was too long (she was with her littermates and 2 other puppies), but she loves on everyone, and I know she would run off with a stranger as long as they were nice to her.
  • Jackie & Jake

If you are going to the meet up in Poway this weekend you and Sid will be able to meet Jake!!! Unfortunately I will not be there but my boyfriend will be bringing Jake so they can play!!! I hope they enjoy each others company!
  • Jane

I just found your message this morning about finding a copy of Little Dog Lost. Thank you for telling me. I have now gotten two copies. My brother found one on Ebay and a friend found one for me also on Ebay. I am lending my copy to friends in the area. There is a group of us who meet occasionally around Southern NH. How do you like the video? Jane
  • Jackie & Jake

He will most likely be wearing a Boston Red Sox hat!!
  • Jane

On my page it said that you left a message for me three hours ago. I can't find the message. Jane
  • JW

Thank you for your wonderful comment! Sidney is so very adorable, and of course I love his tail! He reminds me a little of my Griff, bone structure-wise they both look very masculine. In the picture of him curled up in the car next to Bruce, he is even making a "Griff face"! Precious.
  • John Wolff

thanks for your kind words. Al & Gwynn know they're spoiled, but they're unimpressed by scenery. They're only into hiking for the triple rations and the occasional dead things they find, or -- better yet -- my socks after a 3-day trip.

We'd all like to see more pics of Sidney showcasing that foxy tail. I think Pems deserve their tails. Used to be an alleged Pem with a tail in our neighborhood, a rescue dog.

I have a perfect red fox pelt (roadkill). I don't think it's any more luxuriantly soft than a Pem, and that tail -- wow.

3 weeks ago, Al & I encountered a beautiful coyote that *barked* at us, several times. Not at all shy, very close to the ski area. I think it may have wanted to play(!?). You don't bark at something you're afraid of, or want to eat. I've heard coyotes make all kinds of sounds, but not a bark. Glad I'd put Al on the leash.
  • Kristen

You are so kind. How could I say no to that face?!
  • Kristen

Quite a change form the "before" picture. Her eyes say it all!
  • Cam

Nah, I wish I drew it, but truth be told I'm a terrible artist. :) I think it might be official Cowboy Bebop art, but have no idea for sure.
  • Butter

Hi, I just read that you have a senior Corgi. We just adopted a 9 year old Cardigan who is on Senior's Canidae food. Do you really think it is worth it? We were thinking of getting something less expensive but Buttercup has had some bowel problems in the past so are a bit nervous about changing food. We are Canadians and here it seems to be the most expensive food...maybe not in the US. Also, can you give me any hints as to how Corgis age and what to expect...thanks. Joy
  • Butter

Thanks for all of your hints and advice. I'll follow-up on them. Joy
  • Kelly

Thank you so much for that link!!!!! It was absolutely hilarious and so very true! Fenway does all of those things except the elephant noise, but i'm sure as he gets older he will master it. I watched it with Fenway in the room and of course he barked at it at first because I was paying attention to something else other then him!
Thanks so much, that was hilarious :)
  • CaptainCorgi

Thank you so much for thinking about Eowyn. I am very glad she is doing a WHOLE lot better! Like you, I have only ever had male dogs and she is my first female and the only dog I had an odd experience with. I don't know if it's a female thing or something...? Anywho, thank you! Eowyn says thank you as well! *she tapped the laptop screen with her nose* <3
  • Ivy & Bryson

Thanks for your comment on Bryson's winery trip! We hear that there're some nice wineries around Temecula, I hope you'll find ones that are dog friendly!
  • Katelyn

You are welcome! Yup, he just turned 1! =D
WOW! Your dogs birthday is tomorrow! AWESOME!!!!
Yeah, I LOVE anime. All kinds! I like bleach, deathnote, Inuyasha, and many many others. XD Yeah, full metal is good too. You and your daughters must be really cool! =D Yeah, I saw little dog lost when I was just a kid. Now I can show my little sister the movie! =)
  • Katelyn

Awesome! They sound like really cool daughters! Don't get to meet very many people that love anime. HAHAH! Carrot cake is the BEST!!!! Hope the dog has a wonderful birthday!!!!=D
  • Brodey's Mom

I'm not really sure where he got his name. He had it when I got him. Our dog before him we named Brodie. We only got to spend two months with him before we had to put him down. When the opportunity to adopt Brodey from a coworker came up, I jumped at the chance. We've had him for over a year now. He is wonderful. He does like water. He likes to visit Grammy's house on Smith Mountain Lake, VA. He has taken a dive off the dock a couple times and been rescued. He has a life jacket now. He doesn't seem to mind wearing it.
  • Gizmo

Hello Geri, HAHA.... I feel safe with a drumstick short legs dog.Thank you, everything is in Giz's control. We'ld like to say hi to Sid,Bruce and Chester, your guys are lucky, have a lovely's Mom& Sister and living in a beautiful place. How often your guys go to the dog's beach?
  • Suzanne

BTW: how did you get an undocked corgi? It would be my preference when I get to the place to adopt one.
  • Suzanne

I know what you mean about the cookie, Henry will wait until I get home too. I can't even say "I love you" without Henry doing sad puppy. He rolls over and shows me his tummy.
Henry is sooo bad the women that come clean our house thought he was sick until they saw him with me. They were amazed at the difference.
Isn't it wonderful to save a dog!
  • Furpants McGee

She's about 12 weeks...my husband at first was sad we had to wait so long to get her, but I think it was a blessing in disguise because she's learning so quickly AND she still is in the fun, stumbly puppy stage.
  • Butter

You're welcome. Buttercup says "Hi" back; have a great day!
  • Butter

Welcome to the group~! You're an honorary member, being the first to join. That's part of the challenge...what can we be on the lookout for...makes us think, don't you think? haha
  • Manda and Chloe

yeah, i just love the tail...i dont think they would really be the same without them.
chloe is a spaztastic little dog and i love her for it.
from the sound of it you've got your hands full too...three dogs, they make a lovely trio though.
  • Sandy

Thank you fir the advice about teeth cleaning. Sandy's carnassials are in pretty bad shape and I worry that they will pull hers. What teeth did they pull on Bruce?
  • Trice

Thanks Geri and Sidney, your corgis are so cute! I can't wait to have our lil Trice, for now, I'll be browsing around this awesome website!
  • Florence

Hi Geri and Sidney, I'm glad you like Nana & Uyanga's pics, thank you !

Here in Japan, there is a lot of Pems, but very very few Cardis.
I came to Japan very long ago ! And at this time, I never thought we would have even a dog one day.....and of course never heard about Corgis !
Life is full of surprises !
  • Elys

Sydney is adorable--love the tail! If Camber had a tail, I don't think I'd be able to take how cute she'd be. I mean, corgi butts are adorable, but stick a tail on one? Forget about it! Happy Belated Birthday, Sydney!
  • Keith, Joanne, and Range

Your puppy looks so much like Range...
  • quinn gleich

Thanks for sharing your photos and stories. It is very cool to feel so welcomed. Hillary joins 2 other canine companions here. Peanut is a maltese cokcer mix - about the same size as Hillary, but she weighs about half of the stocky and solid Corgle.
Peanut was a rescue 10 years ago and is a Delta Certified Pet Therapist . Wea lso hae Annie Oakley who is a 5 year old rescue Rhodesian/Lab. Oakely is a big girl - 120#s and Hillary has already figured out that she can do figure 8's through Oakley's legs.

    I will post photos...
  • Mariana

All of your dogs are beautiful. And I love Sidney's tail.
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

thanks for your positive feedback we can really use it right now. I really hope i can take riley to the vet's two years from now and say "two months to live ha its been two years!"
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

sidney is so beautiful! I love the birthday cake photo! Was that her one year birthday? Thanks for the positive feedback we need it
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

We are so sorry! Some people think Riley is a girls name too..lol We are sorry to hear about Bruce and will keep him in our prayers!
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

I wanted to let you guys know that my neighbor has a dog with cancer in her kidney and she has lived two years since! So that is some good news to hear! That dog isnt even on a special diet!
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

oh even though Riley is sick he still makes me laugh. He still does his tricks,I will keep praying for Bruce. I really belive his time is short because he has developed a tumor on his leg and it is making him start to limp. I cant see him in pain, you know...Oh god this is hard! My parents made the appointment for the 27th but I still am praying for a miracle. Thanks so much for your comments we appreciate everything
  • Ju Lo

Hi Geri, I had a great time walking with you and your clan last weekend. :) I hope we can do it again soon with some more meetup group members!
  • Ju Lo

Yes, I love this site. :)

Thanks! It's hard to believe he was so little just earlier this year! I have more up to date pictures on flickr...unfortunately I can't link it right now because my work blocks the website. :( But it's linked on my blog if you're interested (on the right column at the top): http://corgitails.blogspot.com/
  • Ju Lo

Hey, where is that pet boutique where you go Sydney's cake? I'd love to get Theo a birthday cake when he turns 1 in a few months. :D

Did you get the toy you call a tribble at kahoots? That's what I call Theo's!!! What a coincidence! They totally do though. :)
  • Ju Lo

Oh thanks! I'm totally going to make a trip out there in December (when Theo turns 1)!

Ha! Theo's tribble is by far his favorite toy. He loved the small ones at first, but then we bought him one of the big ones and he loves to play fetch with it. Kahoots is nice, though I actually prefer the Pet People in 4S, though the toy selection at Kahoots is better.
  • JollieEllie

Hello Geri & Sidney, Greeting from sunny Sydney :)
Sid is so handsome and glad to see another pem with tail. I like them with tails because they wag non stop! :)
Did you make that birthday cake? lukcy Sid. It looks yummy!
  • JollieEllie

Natural bob tailed pems are quite rare these days. My breeders told me they probably only get 1 or 2 from a litter of 5/6. Docked tail is banned in Australia so more breeders here are showing pems with tails nowadays. They are just as cute and good looking, I reckon! :)
Truffle's sire is from USA and if I'm not mistaken from Southern California too.
How can anyone mistaken Sid for anything but a pure corgi? Look at that face and gorgeous markings!
  • JollieEllie

Yeah, I love the wagging tails too!! I know wagging butts are quite cute but there's nothing like wagging tails combined with their faces lighten up when they see you.
Truffle can wag really really really fast. It is quite handy to cool off my feet in summer time hahaha. When the weather is hot, her tail is like a fan. :)
