The "little"notch (top center) is what stopped us. The summit is to the left, a long ways. The white stuff is not snow; it's long (6"+) hoar-frost crystals. We're at about 7900', 12:30 PM, maybe 12 miles from the car, and one of us has to be at work tomorrow.
It looks gloomy -- it is gloomy -- but we're right on the edge of the crest, we can feel the sun's warmth, and the occasional sunbreaks are exhilarating. Beautiful high mountain weather.

This is a corgi website. It is "dessert", not "desert". :)

The notch is a "gendarme" (guard), a spire on a ridge you can't get around. 4th-class rockclimbing on rotten rock with hoarfrost all over it. Not corgi-friendly.
The eye covers are "mesheyes", sold by Doggles. Allegedly cut out 50% of UV. Whether this does any good, who can say? They tolerate them better than doggles sunglasses, but they still try to rub them off.
We were well above 7000' on snow for a long time, and even though it was overcast, that's really hard on the eyes. You have to keep the dog in front of you, else you end up walking back to find the sunglasses.

It makes me think of those eery great books I've read. Did you walk to the notch or was it just too far to get around there for the day?

What's on your pups head?
