Lysichiton americanus, "Skunk Cabbage", is a member of the Araceae native to the Pacific Northwest. The inflorescence (not shown) is a spectacular spadix surrounded by a huge yellow bract. Growing larger than small children, these specimens are unexceptional.
Its pungent namesake odor attracts pollinators such as carrion flies and beetles, and other animals that vector to revolting smells.

"...and other animals that vector to revolting smells."
