7/3/11, about 9 PM, 6400', summit bivouac, a magic sunset to end a magic day. We awoke at 5500', camped on snow, light rain on the tent. Rats. Slept til noon. In improving weather, we hiked on perfect snow all day, seeing no one nor any tracks (except a coyote's, exactly like Al's), and climbed two modest peaks, camping on top of the second, the first dry ground we set foot upon all day. I wish you could've seen Al flying and frapping across the perfect, trackless snow against the sublime mountain backdrop.
The sun's disc is just about to touch an unseen mountain. What this photo cannot show is that the sun's halo is expanding and contracting wildly, as roiling mists occult it. This is just blowing mountain fog, and the sky is generally clear.
The sky was utterly clear, calm, and silent all night; no tent. Morning sun warmed us and illuminated a stupendous view.
Even Al seems impressed with the inedible sunset.
As good a day as I've had.
