It sounds like your yard has provided a shelter for a great many animals.   When I think about all the homeless pets, I like to remind myself of all the people like you who have cared for so many.  There are a lot of good people out there who rescue and care for animals and it's wonderful !

WOW. . .you absolutely wonderful to give such care to these unfortunate little ones.

I've lived in this house for. In January, it will be 59 years that I've lived in this house and we have had over 1,000 animals in that time from cows, donkey, peacock, pheasants, chickens, ducks, quail, dogs, Doves, pidgeons, alligator, Redtail Hawke and fish. . . . Cats seemed to like my backyard because of the shelter of the trees and complete privacy my yard provides. At one time I counted 23 cats. But eventually one by one , they went on their way. Now I have 3 little ones that won't let me near them but allow me to put food and water down for them. I'm hoping they will tame up enough for me to take them to the vet. . .we shall see. . . .

Where we live in rural Tennessee there's a steady flow of homeless pets.  First we took in a beautiful male cat; charcoal gray and white, and got him neutered. Smoky loves to be a country kitty so he spends time outside during the day and always comes in for the night. Then an orange tabby showed up who was only a few months old.   I came out  onto the porch one afternoon and there he was at the bottom of the stairs, rubbing his head on a tree, purring, almost as though Smoky had told him, "if you parade around at the bottom of the stairs and look really adorable, they'll probably take you in".  And of course we did and we got him neutered.   A year later a yellow tiger cat ran through our back yard into the barn and he looked like he was limping.  I went to check on him and found that his front left leg had obviously been injured, how I don't know, but it had healed over.  So we started feeding him and giving him a good supply of water and hoped we could find him a home.  Winter was coming and it was going to be too cold for him outside at night so I made him a little "home" on the back porch and bought a plug in farm heater.  It was actually quite an elaborate series of pet crates set end to end with an opening and it was all covered with layers of blankets.  I checked the temperature at 11:00 pm and it was 48 degrees !  We played with him all the time and he was really friendly and sweet and we finally got him neutered and brought him down to Florida for one of our sons.  Now he's an indoor Florida cat and he loves !  Our son absolutely loves Skippy !   Next was our beagle fox hound Girlie that showed up out of the blue and we decided to make her part of our family.  She was about six months old so we had her spayed right away. She's just a delight.  There's a black cat that eats out of our outside feeder and a white cat, that we refer to us blacky and whitey, respectfully but they don't want to be friendly with us.  Right before Labor day a black and white puppy showed up and a family fell in love with her and decided to adopt her.  Their two boys adored her and now I keep in touch with them on Facebook.   Hopefully there won't be any more stray animals for awhile because we can't take in any more and I'm running out of families to give them to !

He used to live in my back yard. I would put food & water in bowls for him but he never let me touch him. He enjoyed watching the dogs as they enjoyed watching him. . . .One day he was gone? Hope nothing bad happened to him.

Winston loved our cats.  When he walked by them they would nuzzle each other with the side of their heads.
