5600', an hour's drive from Seattle, 3700' gain. May Day 2011. I could've gone skiing. We've had spring in Febril and winter in Apruary. This year, seasonal snowpack records were set at the end of April. Gardens are a month late. Avalanche danger was high (May 1), heavy wet snow, many fresh slides are visible in this photo; I made a big mistake and set off a small one on the descent.
Al loved the snow: firm frozen crust on the way up, sliding down deep, mushy, wet stuff on the way down.
It's right on I-90, Snoqualmie Pass, not a quiet mountain.
