If you're an auto mechanic and have any interest in auto racing, there's a great dog book titled "The Art of Racing in the Rain", Garth Stein, he's a writer here in Seattle WA USA. It's a soppy tearjerker, a great book for dog lovers and it has an eventual Italian connection (Ferrari).
Might be hard to find a copy in Europe, you'd have to order it. But if you like cars it might be worth it.
