I'm the pround parent of Merlin, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Mellie, a Corgi mix
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Mellie and Merlin have very different origins. We've had Merlin since he was a wee little nugget; he became part of the family in early 2009. We purchased Merlin from a puppy store--something we have vowed to never do again--although we obviously do not regret finding him. About a year later when all of the teething scars had healed on our arms, we decided to take on another little one, and that's when we got Mellie. We got her as a rescue after finding a listing on Petfinder for a different Corgi. The lady who ran the rescue had just adopted out the one that we were interested in, but told us about Mellie, who had been dropped off at a shelter, pregnant with a litter of puppies. From what they knew, she had apparently been used as a breeder. She had her puppies in the rescue's care, and then after a visit to the vet, she came home with us, nearly all skin and bones, and awfully scared. In the mere six months that have passed since she joined our family, she has completely turned around, and bears almost no resemblance (physically and otherwise) to the dog that she was when we first met. Mellie wasn't quite sure what to make of Merlin when they first met, since Merlin is the embodiment of outgoing and fearless. It didn't take too long though before the two of them became thick as thieves and now I wouldn't dare separate the two of them for any period of time.
They both love the dog park (who doesn't?), and even more so, the beach. They seem to know when it's a beach day, and poor Mellie gets so excited, she usually cannot control herself, so to speak. It's such a blessing to have two dogs that love the beach so much--after a couple hours of running and swimming and running some more, they're both dead to the world for a good day or two!
