Toy recommendations for agressive chewers?

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 11:46am 4 Comments

Hi all,

My year old Corgi Bosco is a really agressive chewer.  I buy a toy or rope for him and he has it shredded by the day's end.  I gave him a tennis ball and he had the fuzz pulled off and the ball in half in an hour.  Thankfully he doesn't eat any of it...he just loves chewing.  I buy the harder Nylabones and he has a ball chewing them to pointy spears all the time, but wondered if any of you experienced owners with chewers have any recommedation for some fun toys that can stand…

Sidney thanks you for the compliment! He makes me smile, and I do think he has really nice markings. It was so hard to see him in pain and he didn't know why it hurt. They said our other option was to just keep him on pain meds for the rest of his life and limited activity. No way! He was only three and he loved being out in the hills with me. Surgery was definitely the way to go.

Our monthly meetups are so much fun. If you have never been at a dog park with over 50 corgis frapping and herding each other, you don't know what you are missing :) Too bad NJ is so far away!

Hi Tina! Oh, poor little Bosco. I don't know if you looked back at my old blog posts, if you go back to August/Sept 2010 you can read all about Sidney and his HD, surgery and recovery. The wonderful news is that now, SIdney walks without trace of a limp and we have resumed our hiking! Sidney is my walking buddy and I was so sad thinking he would not be able to  join me anymore, but he's good as new! The only thing that's different is that Sidney gets nervous if a big dog sniffs around his hind end, and he'll snark at the dog to warn it to back off. He's fine with dogs his size or smaller. The vet said he'd have lifelong arthritis, so if his joints are sore I can't blame him...but he doesn't show it. He gets glucosamine chews (Dasuquin) three times a week to help with the arthritis. PLease let me know how things go with the xrays! Our vet thought it was a muscle strain until the xrays told a different story.
