A Walk and Good Nutrition

After seeing an earlier post on walking dogs...and feeling a bit guilty for my lazy nature...I decided to put on the coveralls, the heavy boots, glove and hat to take the dogs out for a romp in the recently harvested corn field. I love to walk in the harvested field since it is easier to walk six dogs off leash, no concerns for traffic and lots of room to run.My little blind Corgi is just esthatic to be off leash and I know she will stay close and go right down the rows with me. The pack uses a… Continue

Fergie Had an Ultrasound Today!

We were pretty confident, but now its official. The stick turned pink! Our vet did an ultrasound today along with the blood test and there is no doubt that Fergie and Brodie are going to be parents! Our vets office is so wonderful. The entire staff had to come in to watch the ultrasound We could see at least three puppies, but there is a possibility of more. We could even see little hearts beating...which means we are a little further along than we thought! We expect her to deliver sometime… Continue

Confessions of a Failed Corgi Foster Parent

I got the email from the woman who did the design when we renovated our office. She has a Corgi and knows that I have the Corgi disease. “10 month Old Corgi needs a home” read the subject line…Okay I thought, I know a lot of Corgi people, surely someone would be interested in this darling little man. Success right away! A friend of my daughters and her fiancé said that they would love to take him and on top of that a MyCorgi member close by also indicated they would like to adopt. I picked up… Continue

Update on our special needs girl

A little over a month ago we adopted Poppit a one-year-old blind red-headed tri Corgi. She spent her first year with very little socialization and lived in an outdoor kennel. After a month in her forever home, she is my velcro girl. She plays with reckless abandon when the others are willing and if you didn't know she was blind you would have trouble knowing that she was any differeent from the rest of the pack. She has mastered the front steps..both up and down. She has memorized the yard and… Continue

Special Needs Girl Settling into the Family

On Thursday we made the five hour plus trip from our place to the foster home of Gweondolyn. Gwendolyn is a one year old Corgi with Juvinile Cataracts. While she is not completely blind, her vision is severly limited. She has lived in an outdoor kennel her entire life and has never been potty trained and has had limited socialization with people. She recieved good care at her foster home, but she has a long way to go. In addition to her cataracts her eyes are especially small. She has fairly… Continue

Some would say I am crazy, but here at MyCorgi I seem normal!

Just a few minutes ago I got off the phone with the foster mom to Gwendolyn, a one-year-old, tri-color Corgi with Juvenile Cataracts. We were just approved to adopt this special needs girl! She is visually challenged, although she is not completely blind. She will be entering the mayhem that is our home with four Corgis and a Corgi Wannabee (Potter the Shipoo). We are so excited. It seems like a perfect match. She needs us and we really want her! It all still depends on the face ot face of… Continue

I Need Your Help!

Last week I blogged regarding a repeal of Basil's Law...A law put in place to ban trapping in the right-of-way after the tragic death of my best friend Basil. The bill to repeal the ban will be discussed for the first time this year by the Nebraska Legislature on Friday, January 30. Please check out the original blog post and read the reponses at the end from Theresa and myself. If you are from Nebraska please communicate with your senator. If you are not from Nebraska you can still help by… Continue

Attempt to Repeal Basil's Law

This was a blog post I was hoping I wouldn’t have to make. The story starts with losing my Basil three years ago. When I first joined my Corgi—I was one of the first 500 members—I blogged about losing Basil. Basil was my first Corgi and my best friend. On the day before Thanksgiving three years ago I took my two Corgis, Basil and Lizzie, our elderly black lab Golden retriever, Tess and our Leonberger, Rudy for a walk. It was a beautiful day. We live… Continue

Fern will be having surgery

Our little rescue Fern made a two day visit to the vet for some testing. Fern is our little Pem rescue. She is three years old and was in Foster care for more than six months. She has an incontinence problem. Nobody wanted a leaky Corgi I guess. We fell in love with her regardless. We welcomed her to her forever home in August. We have tried a variety of teatment therapies, PPA, DES--a combination of both as well as changing her to a grain free diet and supplementing her with corn silk. These… Continue

Two Weeks with Fern

Tomorrow will mark our first two weeks with our new rescue girl, Fern. She has really turned into a sweet little dog and fits in quite well. She is coming out of her shell. Fergie, our little girl that just turned one has decided that Fern is a terrific playmate and they wrestle on our walks. Water is Ferns weakness. She loves to FRAP through mud puddles. We have plenty of those since it seems to storm everyday. She comes home a muddy, but very happy… Continue

New Family Member

Last Friday I took a little 4 hour drive to Holt Missouri to meet with a representative of Forever Friends Pet Rescue. I came home with a sad little female corgi, formerlly a puppy mill breeding dog. She had been in foster care since early January. They called her Blair, she is three years old and she has an incontinence issue--could explain why such a beautiful, sweet little girl wasn't taken home by someone in more than five months. She is potty… Continue
