Well, everything went off without a hitch yesterday! I got to the airport at around 9:30 and Riley's flight got in at 9:35. By 10:05 I was walking out the door with the carrier in hand. Unfortunately, the airline's scissors broke, so they didn't have any to cut the zip ties with! Thankfully, my resourceful boyfriend happened to have his cigar lighter on him - butane will burn through anything! Those ties were off in a matter of miliseconds!
Riley was a little hesitant to come out of the crate at first. He had piddled on the towel in the crate during the trip, so he didn't go potty when I took him outside before we headed for home. He also seemed to bond to me pretty quickly. So we loaded up, my boyfriend driving and me riding shotgun with Riley in my lap! He was fast asleep for most of the trip except for when he woke up once, stared right at Ryan, let out a big growl and then fell back asleep. It was almost like he was saying, "sorry, she's mine now, buddy!"
We got a good laugh out of it and got back to my apartment around 11:00. We played for a while and then I took him outside again, nothing. So I gave him a little water and a few kibbles and we finally ended up going to bed around 1:00. At 3:00 I heard Riley roll over in his kennel so I took him outside, still nothing. At 7:00 he was whinning so I took him out - nothing. We went back to bed until I woke up at 9:15 and drug him out of bed too. We went outside...you guessed it - nada. Actually, he was still so tired that all he did was look at me as if to say, "really?" and flopped down in the grass. He had breakfast and I took him outside...nope. Finally, I was on the phone with my mom and he started sniffing around. I've been trying to "bell" train him, so everytime we went outside I touched his paw to the bell. Well, I'll be darned if the little guy didn't go over and nudge the bell with his nose! So out we went, and..ta-da! PEE! I couldn't tell you how many time I said "good boy!" in the matter of the few seconds he lifted his wobbly left leg! :) That was at 10:30. He hasn't gone since...I swear, this puppy must have a bladder the size of a grapefruit!
I really can't believe what a laid back, well behaved little gentleman he is! I couldn't possibly be happier with him! He seems to also do a good job entertaining himself with his toys - I don't have to be with him every second which I like! Oh, and he wasn't too bad when I put him in the crate either - he cried for ~5mins, and then I would put my hand off the edge of the bed so he could smell it through the side of the crate and he settled right down! He seems to take everything in stride and not too much seems to bother him. I really couldn't have gotten a better puppy which I owe a lot to the fact that I found a great breeder who was very helpful and made sure he was well taken care of! People thought I was crazy to live in Michigan and buy a puppy from Texas - but it has proven to be completely worth it! So I owe a big THANK YOU to Stephanie Owens in Grand Prairie, TX!
