Well today we got Jake. He is finally with us. Two weeks earlier than we had thought, but we are so happy. Is is such a sweet dog!!! Hes 8 months but has lived in the desert and seems a little nervous about some things in the city. Any ideas on the best way to go about getting him used to the surroundings?

I will be sure to post some pictures tonight!!!!

Congrats on your new pup! Jake is very handsome. I remember when my dogs were pups and afraid of everything! Bill (my pug) was scared of grass, jumping off curbs, the stairs, certain toys...etc. I just made an attempt everyday for him to be exposed to those things. A little bit at a time of course, and make each time positive, lots of praise and encouragement. Word of advice and experience, do not use food/treats to praise everytime. The one time you don't have a treat they will be highly disappointed! Bill now only listens if he gets a treat. Mia (PWC), on the otherhand, does not need anything but my encouragement. Good luck!

What a beautiful boy! Here's hoping for many, many happy years together. Give him a few weeks to acclimate. Lots of praise, exercise, and learning the rules of the house. His pictures are wonderful, looks like quite a nice coat.

Congratulations on Jake! He's a gorgeous boy. : - ) He'll be looking at you for cues on how to respond to things, so just be calm, confident and happy. He'll pick up on that. Don't coddle, baby or pet him for showing insecurity...he'll pick up on that too, and feel certain that he is correct to be afraid. Do take him out to introduce him to lots of new experiences, places and things. Good luck, and congrats again!

Congrats! Just get him out there and reassure him that he is a good boy.

Give him time to explore, I am sure he will open up.

Congrats! I don't have any advice since we just got our pup yesterday, but I wanted to say Hi!
