Hi guys. I need some advice...

Daisy has been heaving at 4 a.m. every morning for the last 2 weeks. We went to the vet who said that sometimes puppies can get an upset stomach from being in the crate...I had just changed the food at the time, so we thought maybe it was just upsetting her. We have changed foods (Beneful to Iams), but she is still doing it!

Daisy goes to bed at 10:30, and we get up at 7. Sometimes she doesn't heave up anything; other times she hacks up puppy hair, etc. (whatever she ate during the day that I didn't see). There is usually never a liquid, but this morning there was...

Please help! I am getting no sleep because I am too afraid that my pup is choking or something. Has anyone had any problems with this. She doesn't do it during the day--She takes 2 hour naps in her crate 3 times a day also. No problems at all.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Amy and Daisy

That is similar to what the vet told me might be happening. Daisy does have feeding times (8 and 5), so this could very much be the issue. I am hoping that this is all that is the problem. I am going to give it a try...perhaps this is why she doesn't heave during the day...always working for those treats! Thank you! Your advice is always so welcomed.

I have heard of a fairly common problem with Corgis throwing up in the morning, usually just a bit of liquid and maybe a bit of foam. This has been completely resolved by a lot of folks by giving the dog a dog biscuit or two, or just a very small amount of kibble. I guess some dogs get a bit of a tummy upset if their stomach gets completely empty overnight.

I don't know if that is Daisy's problem, but giving her a few bites of food right at bedtime certainly can't hurt anything.

That's a good idea. We do live in a very rural area with lots of grass, sticks, etc. You name it, Daisy finds it. I will make sure I really watch her tonight. Thanks!

he's probably getting into something he shouldn't be before bedtime - watch her like a hawk tonight! tie her to yourself so u know what shes doing at all times, etc... youll likely find out what shes getting into??

Bailey did this for two nights, and i attributed it to him eating grass on our last potty break before bedtime, i did get up to check what he heaved up, ti was just some yellow foam (yellow from the bile in his stomach - his stomach was empty thus the foam)... but .. he hasnt done it ever since, and i dont let him eat grass on our walks (easier cause i live in the city and theres lots of CONCRETE!) lol. but good luck. i dont think its ice cubes. i give those to bailey daily now cause hes teething too - plus its been so hot lately!

That's a good idea. She doesn't really drink a lot of water after 8 as it is, but it's worth a shot. I do give her ice cubes because she is teething. Do you think maybe that has anything to do with it?

hmm.... you know, one of my corgis used to hold and not wanting to soil my carpet and rather throw up. May be pick up the water dish 2 hours before bed time and let her go potty before sleeping? Just a thought.

I did mix them gradually. She seems to be ok during the day...Plenty of energy and everything. I just don't know what would make her do this...She doesn't even heave during the day. Just at 4 a.m. Do you think she might have to go outside? I don't know. I am open to all suggestions. I would do anything to make her comfortable...even if that means getting up at 330 to take her out.

When you changed food, did you change all at once? sometimes a sudden change can cause the dog to vomit, it is recommended that you mix it new food with the old for a smooth transition.

The vet didn't test the vomit because we had changed foods...I am really scared, though. Daisy is only 5 months...She normally goes to sleep afterwards, but it is always around 4 am. Maybe I will just set the alarm and take her outside at 330 and see if she does it...I don't know. I think I may try a second vet...Thank you!
