So I have a trip to San Francisco planned for August and the thought of leaving my new girl Leia is killing me already! I would LOVE to take her but I'm not sure for one if its a great idea and for two if its fair to our other dog who is just too large to take. We will only be gone 4 1/2 days but that seems like enough time to throw off any of the training we are working on. Maybe taking her would mess that up too? I don't know. I keep going back and forth on the idea.

I LOVE the Giants and I wish I was going to be there for that but we are coming the week before. Thank you so much for all the useful info you've provided!

I think if you do a search on dog friendly airlines on the internet - and here's the thread from a reent forum discussion on traveling. Sam posted a great link to airliners and their pet policies.

The San Francisco Giants (baseball) is having a doggy day at the park event in August!!!!!! They are playing the San Diego Padres on August 23rd at 1:05 pm. I'm thinking about taking Bailey - you get to parade around the park an sit in a special area with your dog (the bleachers) during the game! =)

Oh yea! And if you plan on taking public transportation - friendly dogs are allowed - but you need to muzzle them (cause parking will get expensive!!!!) - but I'm an anti-public transit person myself. I love driving. =P and Bailey loves riding!

I LOVE San Francisco too! I've been there 4 or 5 times and I always find new stuff to do. It's amazing! There will be one day while I'm there that I won't be able to take Leia with me but the other days shouldn't be a problem. We are going to a 49ers game but she should be ok in her crate for a few hours. Thank you guys for the advice! (now I have to convince my boyfriend its a good idea to take her!) Does anyone know if Virgin Airlines lets you bring pets on board?

I dont know about the relapse, but just from personal experience, san francisco is a verrry dog friendly town. it might be a little hard to visit museums and art galleries, etc, but i mean if you are going for leisure it might be ok. i dont know of any dog babysittign places, but maybe you could have her in a recommendend san francisco doggie day care?

I agree-take Leia with you, like children, she will adjust to your travel schedule. All winter long we took Kitty with us to the mountain(snowboarding)for 3-4 days at a time and she loved it.She is a great traveler! We have never taken our lab,she stays home and "guards the fort".

Youll love the city, I guarantee that! =) I think Leia will be fine, if she forgets anything (relapses on potty training being the most important), I'm sure she'll snap right back in after you get back in the routine after you get back. =D haveveee fun! Is it your first time to SF? I can try to answer any questions you have.. being as it I've lived here my entire life!
