After so much anticipation I could barely handle it... Mikko has finally come home!! We picked him up yesterday after a 4.5 hour drive to the heart of Wisconsin, and I had butterflies the whole way there... wondering how he had changed since last time we saw him, if he would "like" me, whether he would bark the whole way or puke in the car on the long ride home... Well, all my fears were silly ~ he is gorgeous, healthy, rolly-polly, and so sweet! I loved him instantly! He has grown so much, but is only 5 lbs and still very much a baby - I love the puppy fuzz and puppy breath!! When we entered the house, he ran up to me and licked my hands and gave me lots of puppy kisses! We jumped back in the car for the trip home, and he whined a bit at first but eventually settled into my lap and fell asleep. Later he went into his new crate and slept most of the way home, which was awesome and an answer to my prayers. It was raining like crazy the whole way, so Mikko and I rode in the back so as not to distract our chauffer, my hubby Aaron. :) When we stopped after awhile for a potty break, Mikko was sticking really close to me in this new environment and all of a sudden I felt something warm on my foot... So, his first act as puppy of the family was to pee on momma. :) Anyhoo... we finally got home after a very long day and he courageously explored his new house, played with toys, peed and pooped a few times before bedtime (on the carpet of course)... And we settled in for a sleep-interrupted night. Apparently, Mikko was never taken outside except for being on a deck, and had not yet experienced grass! So when we took him out to go potty, he just wanted to explore... then he'd come in the house and go potty. Oh well! At least he loves being outside and was even chomping on the grass a bit, like a little goat! Today has been a better day... about equal pottying outside and inside. He's getting a treat and lots of praise when he goes outside, and pretty much nothing when he goes inside... so being a brilliant Corgi that he is, I bet he will figure it out in time... hopefully sooner rather than later! I have to remind my husband (and myself too) that he is just a baby and it's really going to take a lot of time and patience and consistency... I am SO grateful for this site with all the advice and wisdom I could ever hope for... without all the wonderful members here, I would be lost! So thanks everyone, and say a prayer for us tonight that Mikko lets us get a few winks of sleep. :)
