Actually this blog will probably be about more than just camping, since I haven't written in awhile. So if it's lengthy, I apologize!
Penny is doing great! Her ears are up, they've been up for about a week or two now.
Of my 3 cats, the one that she has the biggest, on-going conflict with is Guy. I think maybe Guy is just a big bully, and when I say big, I mean that literally since he is 20 lbs. And he's not fat, well not too fat, he could probably stand to lose a couple of pounds, but mostly he is very long and tall. And he always looks pissed off, just irritated. My daughter loves him the most of all the cats and I can't figure out why since the other 2 are so much more affectionate. I think she just feels like he gets less lovin because of his attitude towards life. I told him he should just smile once in awhile :). But anyhow, all of my cats are declawed in the front, so if Penny bothers them they just whack her on the face. But finally Guy bit her right on the muzzle, I guess he couldn't take it anymore, can't say I blame him. She was fine, no blood was drawn, just scared her. Of course that doesn't stop her from hassling him. Maybe a day after that she destroyed his bed, it comes apart into 2 pieces, so she wasn't really destroying it, just separating it and dragging it around the living room. That is her new favorite activity, she doesn't really mess with the other cat bed, just the one that Guy sleeps in. And maybe a week ago, shortly after one of the times that she had wrecked his bed, I come in the room to find her up on the cushion to his bed, squatting and peeing on it! It was like the ultimate eff-you to poor Guy! Of course I was mad, but I realized how smart a dog she is to have grasped the concept of retaliation.
Wow, I've just re-read that and it's pretty rambling, but whatever, moving on...
We went camping this past weekend at a really nice campground in Wiscasset, Maine, called Chewonki Campground,
. It's pretty close to our house , which is really nice considering the price of gas. And it's extremely dog friendly! Our friends came up from Rhode Island to go with us and we had a great time, for the most part. They brought their dog Comet with them, and Comet is a Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab, and he's about 7 years old. Comet's a great dog, very friendly. But Penny wanted to play and was messing with him while he was chewing on a rawhide, and he bit her. So again with Penny being bitten on the face, but she was fine this time too. I think it was more of a warning bite than anything else. She hasn't been socialized with any dogs yet and I'm kind of bummed that she had such a negative experience. That evening they had a dog parade at the campground, and there were tons of dogs there, but Penny was really scared of the other dogs, wouldn't go near any of them. We participated in the parade, but had to keep our distance from everyone else. She loved the people though. Everyone wanted to checkout Penny, heard a lot of people saying they had never seen a corgi puppy before, and she was definitely the cutest dog there! One guy from New Hampshire mentioned that he had seen the corgi meetup at the park down there, was it Kingston? I can't remember the name of the town, but it was kind of cool to hear him mention it. Oh, and this one woman during the parade really irritated me. I was walking next to this man and he says, "that corgi is so cute, are they good dogs?" And the woman walking next to him says "no, they are stubborn and pig-headed". That really made me mad, and by the way I don't think those are necessarily bad qualities, I think stubbornness goes hand-in-hand with loyalty! So don't insult my dog!
Kudos to those who actually get through this whole post! I know there was more that I had to say, but thankfully for those reading, I've lost the rest of my thought!
