Well, today we went for a walk at a rather unusual time for Cheez. This time during the day the lawn people and other city workers are about and I usually time it so that Cheez-it is inside to escape the over-excitement. Unfortunately today he had to go out, so we went for a walk as it was such a nice day. We reach a point down the street where a little construction has been going on the last few days. There are various piles of wood, blocks, and other this-and-thats laying about. Next to the pile, trash containers for each material. About half way to the area a garbage truck pulls up to a bin and Cheez-it takes intrest. I stopped and had him sit to watch what they were doing from a good safe distance, let him get used to things going on around him. Well people got out and directed the truck to the bin of stuff. I could see the thoughts racing through Cheez-it's mind. "Do they want to play?", "do they have any food?", "are they intrested in playing frisbee?". Well they kept about their business and the truck latched to the stuff-bin. It lifted to the top of the truck and the bin hovered over the open-end of the dump-truck type rear. Cheez-it was amazed at this feat of strength. But then the bin tipped, and in slow motion Cheez-it did a little side-flip turned away to flee, but it was too late. The trash started pouring into the bed of the truck. There was a loud crash and trash was making every noise imaginable almost as if they were dumping a bucket of comical music notes. He started running but the leash hindered his speed and he ended up sort of clawing his path forward. No big deal right? Well, pooping the entire way!! I am sure everyone has heard the term "scared **less" or "That scared the ** out of..", well aparently that portion of americal vernacular holds roots from reality. I had to bathe him when we got home, he was exceptionally distraught from this random spot bathing. I could tell he was wondering what he did wrong to deserve such a fate.

He is drying while resting on the cool tile floor. He has been doing that alot lately but only when I am in the kitchen or something. I think I am going to tile his kennel floor this weekend. I'm pretty sure he will enjoy that, and while it will decrease the mobility of the kennel, I never move it anyway. That is what travel kennels are for. Anyone see any issue with tiling the plastic lining of the kennel???

I don't see a problem with tile at this age. However, as he ages it may be become more difficult to lay on the hard surface for extended periods of time. In addition, he may develop elephant elbows. Sounds serious but it's not :D It is basically just a grey patch of skin that develops on the elbows from laying on hard surfaces. It's more common in larger dogs.

He seems to be better now, he was spooked for a good hour after the incident. Good idea Becky with the plywood, I think I will do something like that if I can find a way to keep any wood from being chewable.

poor cheez! my dog has been scared the s*** out of. if you do tile it use sticky tile. it'll stay a little better than the real stuff. korgi (my corgi) loves carpets for some reason.

Poor Cheez! Brody hates that kind of thing too. I have tiled a piece of plywood -- so you might want to try cutting a piece to fit the bottom of the kennel and tile it. That way in the cooler months you would still have the plastic bottom to put back in if he likes something warmer then.

Aww! Poor Cheez! I know Puki would have been scared too! But to make you feel better the other day we had some people over at our apartment so we had Puki out loving all the attention. Well my hubby hates poop and Puki is potty trained but for some reason she copped a squat in the middle of our living room! My husband freaked out and in mid-pooped picked her up and ran out the door so she could finish. So there was a trail of pooped following behind them! And in the mist of all of that, he passed one of our friends and one of her terds landed on his leg. It was the most hilarious thing ever! Thankfully she didn't poop on herself, but I do feel your pain!

haha, let me know how tiling the kennel goes! Puki loves sleeping on our tile floors, esp. in the bathroom!

Wow, I didn't know that could happen when they got scared! Poor little guy. I guess the only problem I would see with tiling the plastic kennel floor is that the grout might not stick well enough and eventually come off in pieces? I've never seen tile on plastic surfaces but it does sound like a great idea :)

Oh my goodness! Poor Cheez... I hope that doesn't fear that for the rest of his life. Although, it was probably really embarassing for him it's a pretty funny story.

Poor little guy... my Nick is around 4 years old and he still is wary around the garbage truck (or any large vehicle) and skittish around anything new that appears in his finite little world on our block. He regularly walks out of our house on the leash and scans the street left and right for any new "monsters" that have appeared in a pile in front of folks' lawns and barks appropriately and kicks his back legs to let them know he doesn't approve. He hasn't ever had any bowel accidents when getting scared, but when someone new reaches down to pet him when he allows it, he will sometimes roll on his side and submissive pee a few drops.
