So I took Faye to the vet this morning and there was a lady sitting a couple feet from me carrying a cat wrapped in a towel. She kept saying out loud that her cat was bit by a dog yesterday. I understand her fear, but there was a pitbull, a german shepherd and a standard poodle around her, but she chose to throw a fit about my little, harmless corgi. She kept yelling "NO!!" at Faye every time she moved from her position. My name was called and I got up and started walking toward the doctor when that lady jerked her foot IN A KICKING MANNER THISCLOSE to Faye's face. I almost lost it. I said "Hey, didn't you just see my dog laying down that whole time snuggled next to a KITTEN in an open crate?? She's very calm and submissive."

A married couple said to me later, "You know, if she's sooo scared for her cat after what happened, why didn't she put that thing in a crate? If she kicked your dog we would've kicked her @$$."

Ugh.

P.S.
I also got a lot of "Is that a collie mixed with a Wiener dog?" :)

Grrr. I am not a restrained person, and I would have let her have it with both barrels blazing! I have a cat too, and I dearly love her, and if she were bitten by a dog I would be understandably upset, but I like to think I wouldn't have acted that way toward one totally inoffensive little dog. She should have had her cat in it's cage anyway. And Goddess help any biatch that tries to kick my dog! I would have kicked her back, but I wouldn't have hurt her cat...you don't put animals or children in the line of fire...

I couldn't believe that lady. I'm glad I had the support of everyone in the waiting room and that I didn't just imagine that she almost kicked my dog. Corgis are usually okay with cats, right? Besides, I wasn't going to let Faye too close to her anyway.

I would have gotten upset at the Cat lady, too. I probably would have said something like, "You kick at me like that again, it won't be the dog that bites you"! Good dog, Faye!

I'm so glad you barked back at the lady with the cat. I get that all the time at work. As a trainer, I can bring one of my dogs each day. Usually, it's Moira, Maddie or Tank as they are the most well-trained. At least once a day someone comes in and freaks. Yell and scream about there being a dog in the store. What the heck do they think is going to be there? UGHH. I so get your venting. And I'm glad you spoke up.

Poor Faye, she was probably so confused why this woman was mad at her! Do you think she's feeling better from her surgery?

Corgi's are usually really good about cats. We have two cats, one really old and one young one. Both Bruce and Sidney give complete respect to the old one, let his walk right up to them with no response. But let the young one poke his head into the room and it's playtime with a reluctant toy!

I own 3 cats, and unless a dog was lunging at them I would never make a big deal about it. I think the woman was more messed up about it then her cat was.

There was one time at the vet's office that I had to hold Lazarus and a woman was dragged in by her dog. He was constantly trying to jump in my lap at Laz. I was more angry at the woman for not controlling her dog then I was the dog. I can't blame an animal for doing what it does instinctively.

That just goes to show how emotionally attached we are to our pets, sometimes we let that emotion take over and throw all logical sense out the window. I'm sure the lady was traumatized by her ordeal, I would probably give her a break since nothing happened, years ago I've worked in the hospital environment and have seen my fair share of drama, people were in pain most of the time and are not themselves most of the time, so our staff survival strategy was never take things personal.

I'm glad that you stand up for Faye and said something to the lady, let it be a lesson to all our us that we will not react that way when similar situation arise.
