So yesterday I was talking to my husband about how Puki was recovering so well, until this morning I took her out of her cage and she started to pop a squat right there in front of me, she is def. potty trained so I figured that since she was still young that it was a random mishap. But then I looked closely at the puddle on the carpet and noticed there were tiny droplets of blood by it! I was like, oh no it it her incisions? Maybe they opened up? Well I turned her over and saw that her incisions were healing just fine. I figured it was something else. I took her outside and the whole time she was peeing, or at least trying to. She would pop a squat and make a little puddle, and then eventually it went down to little droplets. By then I figured she had a bladder infection of some sort because this wasn't normal at all. After that I decided to feed her morning breakfast. I could tell she wasn't feel well because she just wasn't energetic like she usually is and all she wanted to do was lay down on the chair outside of our patio. I let her in and a few minutes later and she started to make a really weird noise and proceeded to BARF out ALL of her breakfast! I have never seen her do that before and by then I was freaking out! My poor baby! It was only 6:30am and the vet didn't open til 7:30am, so we had to wait around until it was time to leave. I tried by best to comfort her but I knew she was feeling extremely horrible.

When I took her to the vet I was lucky enough to be seen right away so they took us to a room to wait for the doctor. While we were waiting she was popping squats every 2 seconds! Little droplets of pee w/some blood in it! I felt so bad for her because I knew exactly what she was going through because I used to get U.T.I's a lot when I was younger. The doctor came in and he said he would take a pee sample and see what was going on. Eventually he came back and told me that her bladder wasn't full enough to get a sample but he was going to diagnose her with a general bladder infection and prescribe her antiboiotics. I asked him if the vomiting was related to the bladder infection and he said it could have just been some random occurence.

So now we are at home and I know she is feeling so miserable. Not only did she just get surgery a few days ago but now she has to have a U.T.I!!! She's still constantly trying to pee and I just can't wait til these antibiotics get rid of that bacteria so she could just be normal again!

By the way, I read that U.T.I's are more prevalent in female dogs and that its bound to happen at least once in their life. I just hope its not something she will have to deal with all the time. Is there anything I can do to ease her pain or to prevent future U.I.T's? I read somewhere that some people give them a little cranberry juice or apple cider vinegar to cure their infection instead of paying $110 like I did just to see the vet and get her meds! I would rather save money and use home remedies but then again I worry about her health and how effective those home treatments are.

Solid Gold and other maniufacturers as well as health food stores carry cranberry extract that you sprinkle on her food. Lots of people say it helps in keeping UTI's at bay.

Molly had a UTI in March. Within 1 day of taking her antibiotics she was feeling better. I hope Puki is feeling better soon.

Sorry Puki, you dont feel very good right now, I hope the meds starting working soon and you feel better. Yes on another blog about a 6 year old female getting UTI's, they had suggested using cranberry juice, I heard people say apple cider vinegar is to acidic to give to corgis sensitive tummies. You could add some cranberry juice to her water but I would only give a little water at a time unless she is a big drinker, than you know she is getting the cranberry juice.
