I have a 5 1/2 month old Corgi named Chipper. He's the best!!! (which I'm sure everyone says about their corgi - haha). However, he sheds a LOT. He eats high-end puppy food (Eukenuba lamb & rice) and we brush him pretty frequently. It's usually his hind end and tail that shed the most but he's pretty sensitive - as in you can brush him for a few minutes with the wire brush but then he hates it. Any suggestions how to keep the shedding to a minimum?

Yay for the Furminator! It is a godsend (and works on my kitties too!)

Fergie who is now just over a year used to be very sensistive about brushing her hind end, but we progressed slowly and now she tolerates it much better. The furminator is wonderful and it reduces the amount of time you ultimately spend grooming because it is more efficient at removing the hair. Only use it on a dry coat. Better food will make a difference, but there is no way around it, Corgis are prolific shedders. Love a Corgi, tolerate the hair! Invest in lint rollers and swiffer dusters!

If you feed good food then he'll shed less.

A pup at this age is getting their adult coat. I have to say if you think this shedding is bad you are going to be amazed at how the adult coat sheds. I am not much of a believer in products to stop shedding as it is important for the dead undercoat to come out as new coat comes in. Typically a nice warm bath and blow out with a cool dryer will remove lots of hair at one time. I dont recall a pup ever shedding that much. Welcome to the corgi world.....corgis shed and frequent grooming is all you can do to keep the hair at bay.

Oh yes....corgis are shedders, and I have 2 of them! Brushing with the furminator is the best thing. There is something on the market called Mrs. Allens Stop Shed (or Shed Stop) that does help also. You add it to their food. They have changed the formula from the original, and my dogs didn't like it as much. You can find it at Pet Smart or online. Do shop around, cause it is quite expensive. The cheapest I have found is at ValleyVet.com

Aye corgies are shedders there is no doubt about it. Like Sam said try the furminator it works wonders. You will never believe how much hair you get off and they look great afterward too. Good luck!

Oh, I went on that site just now. Eukanuba small breed got a 1 star rating from dog food analysis. Click the link(or if it isn't active just copy and paste it onto the search bar on the top of the page), to see the reveiw talking about why it it received that rating.

Actually eukanuba isn't a good quality food. Feed him high quality food supplemented with salmon oil. I feed my dog California natural. I would visit www.dogfoodanalysis.com and find a kibble that has a 4-6 star rating.
