lola went into heat. and i was totally unprepared for it.

i was in denver over the weekend, and my dad faithfully watched her. when i returned, she was in heat.
so i have no accurate estimate of what day in the cycle it is.

now it may sound naiive of me, and yes, i knew this day would arrive, but i was really hoping to spay her before she went into heat again. so yes, i am a little annoyed with myself.

being the poor college student i am, a 50-75 dollar operation, is just a tad bit out of reach. it's not an absolute necessity, but i was certainly saving up for it. i'm not negligent: i feed her, i bathe her, i walk her, and she's healthy... but i don't really make any money. if something ever happened to her, i would definitely pull money out of my savings. spaying her just didn't seem like an urgent matter, you know?

luckily starting this saturday, Florida Week for the Animals is happening, and i'm praying the Humane Society will be giving out the operations for an even cheaper amount.

so any advice on what to do would be great. i've already bought her some "fancy pants" (the name amuses me to no end), and she is always supervised when outside. i don't want any half corgi puppies thank you.

he he he, it's going to be okay :) Start looking for the local humane society, they often offer low cost spay and neuter service. You can get the equate brand thick pads (human kind) for cheap at walmart, change the pad everyday. Use a lost sock and sew shut the "tail hole" on the fancy pants :

oh no!!! Keep it calm, take deep breaths. Call the vet and make an appointment to spay her as soon as she finishes. Keep an eye on your surroundings, and watch for her "fan club". She might or might not like having doggie "underwear", but is an option while you are out. Pamper her, and comfort her. It's going to seem like long days, but it's going to be over. BTW, spaying her will help her avoid future health problems, but obviously, that is your choice. Good luck! I went through it with Cosmo. It wasn't that bad really. Take care, hugs for you and Lola.
