As of late, Lincoln becomes really "depressed". He sits by the door and lays there ... he sits under the window and just lays there.

We take him out regularly for walks and we are constantly playing with him in the home.

It seems like when we are done playing or come in from a walk he gets in this "depressed" state. He just sits in this mood and sighs a lot.

What is it from? What can we do to help him (we can't have another dog for a playmate)?

Maggie acts /acted like that sometimes also...and I think she has found a solution. She gets up on the back of a chair and stares out the window. Sometimes there is something to look at and sometimes not. She even falls asleep with her nose resting in the miniblinds. lol. (wish i could get a picutre) It seems very instinctual for her to "stand guard" She came up with it on her own and now it's her favorite thing to do.

Sometimes Rosie has days like Lincoln. Because Rosie has Pano it concerns me that she might be having a bad day and be in pain. How can you tell if a dog is in pain? I have heard that dogs don't really show obvious signs of pain unless they are in a lot of pain. I also wonder if dogs are like people and just have a blue day sometimes for no particular reason.

If you've ruled out any physical problems you might want to try a doggie day camp for a day (or half day). When I left the furkids in daycare I asked my local Corgi club if they could recommend one- they did- there was only one which separated the big and the small dogs. That was also the only one which did a doggie interview (instead of paperwork) to check for dog aggressiveness before accepting the pups. They also had a web cam so I could click in from my computer and see them playing.

Another thing that will bring Lizzie out of her mood is an old stuffed animal she can gut and take the stuffing out of. Don't know why this makes her happy, but it does.

My Lizzie, will show the same type of behaviour even though we have a house full of dogs...I always wondered if it was because she didn't feel she got enough attention or maybe was upset about sharing me. You can bring her out of it with the magic word "walk", but I get the wistful staring out the window and the heavy Corgi sighs after we come back in. It seems this goes in spurts. She had a bad bout after Basil was killed. And she has a tendancy to pout now and again. Give it a little time. It might just be the current phase and will pass. I am taking Lizzie to the vet on Friday to have her Thyroid checked. We are having a tough time taking some weight off and she did just go through the same type state you describe with Lincoln. She usually sleeps on the bed with me, but when she is having her moments she tends to go into the spare bedroom and sleep on a pillow by herself. There is no consistency to it. I don't think I've helped at all, but I'll let you know what our vet says.

My son has a DVD that shows non-stop dog agility sessions, and the idea is that it focuses on close ups of the dogs and you put it on to "entertain" your dog if you are not at home or otherwise occupied. I don't know where they got it, and not all of their dogs respond to it, but the two that do enjoy watching it and bark back at the screen when it is on. Another one of their dogs likes to sit at the window where he can see outside and watch activity going on, so they keep a window open for him when they are at work. My dog Nick seems satisfied to sit in a chair next to me when I am on the computer and I give him a pet every now and then and he is content until I have time to play with him. Greg Z

Lincoln goes to puppy training every Sunday...

We walk him around our apartment complex which usually takes about an hour or so.

We play all sorts of chasing, fetching, tug of war games in the home.

We attempted to go to the local dog park but that was all mud and ice so it was a failed trip. We plan to go back there when things start to warm up.

We let him run back and forth on our porch with his toys.

I don't know what else to do ... it is hard for me right now cause I am in my senior year at college which is really demanding. I know that is no excuse but there are just times when I have dedicate 2-3 solid hours to the computer to complete my senior project. He doesn't like that one bit and is always trying to get my attention. That is when I usually throw the toy back and forth or give him a pig ear. But that lasts only so long then he is bored again.

it is a possibility, but he could also be just "Chilin" :) when my dogs get bored, they usually come to me and give me a 1 secondt "whine", when they see my eyes are on them, they'll stand up and wiggle their butt and invite me to play, so I usually pick up a tennis ball and start throwing it to the opposite side of the house, usually 10 times should do the trick or I'll give them a few ice cubes to entertain them for a bit. Have you tried the frozen peanut butter stuffed kong?

Gosh, it's hard to say. Have you considered getting him involved with some activities? Maybe there's an agility club in your area? Or a dog park?
