I've never really written a blog entry before, so please bear with me. I figured this would be a good way for our friends and family back east to keep up with us after the move though, so here goes!

I finished up grad school in August 2007, and we decided that it was a good time to adopt a dog. Ty, my husband, had been adamant that we didn't have time to devote while I was still in school and both of us working full time. While I agreed, I still wanted to just do it. I'm so glad we waited! Like the good little MBA's that we are, we did extensive research about what breed was going to be best for our personalities, lifestyle, etc. (I knew that PWC's were the dogs for me, but he took some convincing...and I may have glossed over the shedding factor just a bit). We also wanted to make sure that it was a breed that gets along with cats and kids since we also have two 7 year old Simaese cats and knew we wanted to start a family in a few years.

The weekend after classes were over, I called a local breeder and registered with the local corgi rescue. I'd researched several in our area and really liked what I read and saw about Carrie Harris and her Dalarno corgis (www.dalarno.com). We knew we couldn't give the time necessary to train a puppy, so I was only inquiring about adult dogs that she might have or know about that would be suitable for a pet home. We had a nice initial conversation and she invited us down to meet Micha (pronounced mike-ah) who had just had her last litter of puppies in May. When we saw Micha, we knew she was the perfect dog for us. She's very laid back, but alert to her surroundings, only barks when she thinks we need a warning about something, and basically ignores the cats. She wasn't ready to go home with us that weekend - she was still in the process of blowing out her coat after weening her pups - so we took her home Labor Day weekend. The settling in period was very short for her..the cats are another story (they still aren't sure what to make of her but I think they've accepted she's not going anywhere). We probably spoil her rotten with attention, but she's so darn cute it's hard not to!

The other part of this story is that about a month after Micha came to live with us, we found out we are expecting our first baby! So Micha will have a little sister at the end of June :o)
