Today is Riley's 8 week birthday. I wish I could bring him home now, but I decided to wait until finals were over. A new puppy and 2 weeks worth of vet school finals just don't mix! He'll be 11 weeks when he gets here. He's making a bit of a change from Texas to Michigan weather, but it should be nice by the time he gets here the end of this month. I was a little nervous about him flying, but I'm sure everything will work out fine. Unfortunately the breeder only ships on Tuesdays, and my finals aren't over with until Thursday, May 1st. I didn't want to lose the entire weekend with him, so I decided to fly him in on the 29th anyways. A friend I met through the breeder who lives in the area offered to watch him for me for two days. It actually works out well - she has 2 younger daughters and an older corgi to keep him worn out! :) The best part is that she's home all the time so I know he'll get lost of love and attention there.
I made my inaugral trip to PetsMart the other day. I bought some carpet cleaner and a couple toys for Riley. My friend has a bulldog puppy who just loves his "Bumble Ball," so I bought one of those and a busy buddy twist and treat.
I don't know, maybe its vet school, but I'm terrified of having a fat corgi. I also have come to the point where I worry that everything we learn about my corgi will fall ill with, or have certain genetic problems. Like patent ductus arteriosus - its more common in certain breeds (corgis aren't one of them) and it occurs more frequently in females than males, but I still worry that he'll somehow have one. I can only imagine what it will be like someday when I have human children!

Hi there! We're in similar situation - I will have my final exams a week after my pup is 8 weeks old. Today he's 12 days old and I can't learn anything! I think my final exams will turn to a disaster, but I'm so excited about bringing my first corgi home...! By the way, my university is NOT a vet school and I'm afraid of everything, too. I'm afraid of his fatness, illnesses, getting lost, getting killed.....oh my, big worries ahead, but also big fun!

How excited you must be! What a great thing - to be a vet and be able to take care of your own dog! I am waiting on my pup to be old enough to come home to our family also - 3 weeks old tomorrow so we still have a long wait. Seems like waiting for Christmas morning .... it will NEVER get here!

I am curious, with all the discussions going on about food, did you have much education in that area? Was it paid for by dog food companies?
