I went to the allergist today. I've always had allergies, but since I got Roscoe, they had about tripled. I'd been living on Tylenol allergy for the past three weeks or so, and the past three days I couldn't take any sinus meds before my appointment. Friday and Saturday weren't bad at all, but last night just about killed me. It's the typical stuffed nose, tight chest sneezing, and a red rash/bumps when I would touch him.

I got tested for all kinds of things - I'm super-allergic to mold (had a welt the size of a quarter in that area), as well as most trees, grasses, and dog hair. The doc said that I will most likely have to get shots, but we're going to see if the medicine works first. I got sent home with two different types of nasal spray, eye drops, and to take Claritin once a day. Hopefully this does the job. I'm ok if I keep myself on the sinus meds, I just feel pretty . . . medicated! The shots are expensive and I have a stupid insurance policy, so I doubt if I'd be able to afford the shots, at least for a while. The allergy testing today cost me $350 for my share, which is killer for me at the moment. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Roscoe is doing well - his ears perked up this weekend (no more one up, one down) and he had fun playing with Bella, my brother's girlfriends American Bulldog. We're working on climbing stairs . . .

Count me in too! allergic to all pets, severe mold allergy. had my sinuses operated on twice cuz of the stupid allergies! we got rid of the carpets, instead of the dogs.... got an air cleaner, good vacuum, do the shots and everything kristen said, and keep the dogs groomed. keep your house clean, it's amazing where the fur get's, but my allergist doesn't beleive in people getting rid of their dogs - he/she should work with you to help you get better. best of luck to you - it can be done and be fun. my dogs love the vacuum!

I'm also one of those people who is allergic to dogs but adapts to them over time. Whenever a new dog licks me I get hives in that spot, but after awhile I build up an immunity and I'm fine. There is hope!

I am also allergic to dog hair. Pretty sad for a person with so many hairy, loveable little creatures. I'm allergic to a lot of other things as well--very similar to your list. I took the shots years ago and probably should go back. I have adjusted to the dogs and don't see it as a problem, but occassionally when the seasons change everything bothers. Mold is your bad one. It is in everything good to eat and is all alround, especially this time of year! I started using Zrtek, when it went OTC and it seems to help. Claritin can be bought as a Genereric from every Pharmacy and will save you a bundle! I still use that from time to time. I use the eye drops when I need to. I'm confindent you will get through this. FeBreeze makes an "Allergen Relief" spray that I think helps significantly. I mist the furniture and throw rugs when I clean. My allergy doctor knows I don't like to be dependant on meds so there are a number of things I do to alleviate symptoms that cost nothing!. I would be happy to share, but I won't drone on now. good luck. I feel your pain!
