I have not heard of a single dose Giardia treatment, however I do put GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) once a month in all my animals water. (Chickens, bunnies, dogs and cat) They also get Goat milk products every so often and, knock on wood, we have had no issues in over 8 years.
For more info on GSE check out http://grapefruitseedextract.org/
Best of luck to you and your pup. :D
I had a rescue who came loaded with giardia. He showed no symptoms for the first 3 days I Had him them BAM diarrhea all over the place. With just basic sanitation measures and bleaching the area he went potty and 5 days of treatment with panacur it cleared up right away. Franklin was never infected even though he had been exposed.
I'm sure you are good about washing her food and water bowl but I suggest you give them a boiling water and bleach soak. I've have not problems with these two but in the past I have with other dogs. I found doing that with their bowls and with any toys that can withstand hot water and bleach seems to work. Soft toys I got rid of and replaced after the problem went away.
I know there are some old discussions on here about Giardia but don't remember anything....maybe you can look them up. I don't have any answers...I hope she's better soon!
Hmm... I can't say I've had the same experience, though my pup tested positive for giardia my first vet appt and was treated for it multiple times before she came from the breeder. Other than treating her with metronidazole 2x a day (she also had hookworms) I didn't do anything different. She eats her own poop though so I try to keep her away from it and always pick the previous day's up every morning. I haven't been back to the vet yet so I don't know if she's clear or not, but she hasn't had diarrhea since.
I think when they're young they just tend to get it A LOT, and until their immune system really picks up it might be a reoccurring thing no matter what.
