Bear has always been my loyal keeper - no matter where I am, he is. When the neighbor gives him a treat, he brings it into the house to "eat it with me." When I stay up late, he stays in the living room with me until I head to bed.
Goldy has always been more independent and more of a loner. She likes to go out and lie on the deck by herself, she likes to sit on the hill in the back yard and overlook her kingdom and at night, you can set your watch by her - she goes to bed at 8:30 come rain or shine. Often making herself comfortable on my bed and pillow until I show up - warming it for me I'm sure.
But, I took their crates down a few weeks ago and bought them regular dog beds. I put Bear's in my bedroom at the end of the bed, since he likes to sleep under my bed and it makes me nervous - plus he gets stuck under there sometimes and wakes me up in the middle of the night with corgi noises to lift the bed and let him out.
He definitely took to his new bed - sleeping there instead of beneath the bed - BUT OH HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED...Bear now heads to bed at about 8:30 and Goldy stays with me in the living room.
I have watched her over the last few nights - after Bear heads to bed, she gets up and gets ready to head down the hallway to bed, then looks back at me, and returns to the living room.
She then stays with me until I head to bed.
I can't help but wonder - is this intentional? Are they really smart enough to "make a deal" with each other that one of them must stay with me? OR is it part of their herding instinct? OR is it just a coincidence?

I don't know either, but I agree it's such a sweet story!
