Be Extra Careful During the Holidays!

From the ASPCA Website: http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc_faq#xmas

What are the dangerous substances pets should avoid during the Christmas holidays?

Holiday hazards include:

- Christmas tree water, which may contain fertilizers and bacteria that can upset the stomach if ingested (emph. mine)

- Electrical cords

- Ribbons or tinsel, which can become lodged in the intestines and cause intestinal obstruction—this most often occurs with kittens

- Batteries

- Glass ornaments.

Of course, there are usually a lot of delicious goodies floating around during the holidays, too—be sure to keep human treats inaccessible to your pets.

Be extra safe during the holidays. Our dogs can get very, very ill from drinking tree water. Ingesting tinsel and other holiday ornamentation can be deadly. Be safe this holiday season and puppy-proof your holiday home.

Lots of good info here! Oh Wylie, why are you doing such puppy things? Oh, you are a puppy! We'll say a prayer for you and hopefully all will be ok.

Wylie swallowed an ornament hook today. We are praying it will pass, but he may need to have it removed. The tree is just full of puppy hazards! Thank you for posting this reminder!!!

Thanks for posting about this, we just had a X'mas tree water poisoning incident this last week w/ our corgi Bryson!! Since there is dextrose (sugar) in the preservative, it's apparently quite attractive to dogs. We didn't witness the "act", but he threw up so violently (for seemingly forever) we were worried sick... he's better now, but with that hefty vet bill, it was a very pricey lesson learned!
