My little Muffett has bladder stones. She has no symptoms, they were discovered when she way x-rayed after eating something she shouldn't have- a plastic thing. Anyway, she is on a diet from "prescription" called s/d. It looks like aspic, tasteless and oderless. She does eat it, she is a Corgi. I also have her on an antibiotic.

If this does not work, they are talking surgery. Does anyone know anything about that??? I think it is pretty drastic. She is peeing just fine- I think the diet makes her goes more than usual, but it is clear and plentiful. I don't want to ignore the Vet, but sometimes I think they think operating is the only solution.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated. She was just nine years old on the 4th of Feb.

I want to thank Sam for the link to the old thread. It gave me hope that the stones can be treated and can eventually be eliminated. Muffett is also on prednisone for Addisons so she drinks like a fish!

I saw a show once where a Husky had stones.  They put her front legs up on the exam table, her lower legs on the floor.  Gave her a good hard squeeze around the middle, and squeezed the stones out that way.  Seriously!  Maybe they could put her little stubbins on a step-stool and do the same thing?

Hi Peggie, here's an old thread on stones. Read the entire thread, there are different types of stone and they require different treatment.

Surgery is needed when the stone is too big and cannot pass via urine, some stone may be a little rough in the edges and scratches / irritate the bladder wall, causing an infection. (that's why Muffett is on antibiotic). Muffett is peeing just fine because the stone is not currently lodge and blocking the urinary tract, if the stone is too large to pass and stuck in the tract, it can cause urine back flow and damage her kidneys.
