What brand do u feed ur corgis and why? I have been giving Max Iams puppy food and now he's ready to move to adult food. I was thinking of switching brands since i have to change his food anyway. I'm looking for something less expensive but still nutritious if possible.

Well today i got some beneful with the beef and egg and something else and Max loves it. As soon as he saw the bag he was ready to eat. He even went back for more and is having a second meal already. I'm hoping that I can alternate between the different beneful flavors and he'll keep up this appetite. It's about a dollar or two less than the Iams and i got a dollar off coupon. Thanks Alice for posting the sites, I know a lot of people will be checking those out.

I had added a comment yesterday that seems to have vanished. I wanted to share the two sites I found that address the topic of switching foods and how it is beneficial for your dog. here's what I found:

Suite101.com
Dogfoodanalysis.com

I couldn't find the one in the Whole Dog Journal. If anyone has the link I'd love to read it.

I don't see why you couldn't feed unusual proteins at any time if you plan to switch it with a different protein every few months. Even if you switch to a protein such as duck like we did when the vet suggested that chicken may be causing Finn's issues, there's still a chance the dog could develop allergies to the new protein. That's why I like the idea of switching it. I think we are going to alternate between the duck, venison and either bison or lamb. The duck and venison are both Natural Balance and the other two would be Solid Gold. Solid Gold seems like a good food but I've never fed it before.

Just a thought, but I've heard that going with the weird proteins (fish, venison, etc) is not the best idea up front, because then if they DO develop an allergy you have nothing left to switch to. Same goes for the foods that have four or five protein sources in one formula.

I read a post and someone said that they mix dry and canned food. My vet told me not to give him canned food when he was younger because it would affect his teeth. Is it ok to give it to him now that he has his adult teeth? I would still give dry food but I'd also like to give him a variety so that he's not searching and begging for our food.

Thanks everyone for ur input! I'm going to check out that site that you mentioned Alice. @Christy, I've heard the same as Alice and my husband has said that switching the food is not good. But it does make since so that they don't get tired of the same old stuff. It's like me eating chicken and rice everyday, two times a day, I wouldn't like that.

I feed my two boys Canidae, All Life Stages. 35 lb. bag was $40, not bad for high quality food.

I thought to add the kinds of food to go with the brands....Natures Recipe is Chicken and rice...Blue Buffalo is Whitefish and SweetPotato and By Nature is a Duck and Sweet Pea formula...and my animals don't have sensistive stomachs at all as a matter of fact I do very little switch over, when I have half a container I put the new in and just stir it up a little then we're off on to the new stuff.

Christy,
I was not aware that switching foods was beneficial. I've read other things that say switching foods is unhealthy but switching does make sense. You mentioned that it prevents them from developing an intolerance which I think is what happened to Finn since all he at was chicken (different brands but still chicken) until he was 8 months old. I'm going to look into it some more but I think we are going to switch periodically. Glad you mentioned it. :)

My girls eat Orijen 6 Fish and they love it. I started our feeding my first corgi (Daisy) Merrick. However, they changed the formula and she would not eat it anymore. I started doing research and Orijen was by far the best fit for my corgi girls!
