I'm sure this subject has come up before, but couldn't find what  you like best for stopping a puller. Holly is 4 1/2 months and I know a lot of it is puppy and being excited when she goes out for walks . We are fine after she settles down with just a plain nylon collar, but going to puppy obedience class or  being around other poeple or dogs---no way! I got the Sporn No Pull Harness and at first it seemed to work, but now she pulls like a husky in it. I know to release when she gives in and I do changes in direction and have also made her sit until she quiets down. I reward and when she in a regular collar I try a quick pull to the side to throw her off balance, but nothing seems to sink in or should I say she isn't buying any of my efforts. Is this a case of hard work and her maturing will help or is this a case that I need a different collar such as a martingale or prong collar? Thanks for any help.

I'd say it's work and training.  When she pulls one way, you go the other. Comical, back-and-forth, you won't get far until she stops pulling.  Don't look for a technological fix.

Some say that harnesses encourage pulling.  Prongs seem a bit much to me.  I like my modified Martingales.  There's a collar FAQ.

Hi Margie, don't use a prong collar. I find a Martingale works best for us, remember to leave 2 fingers space, before you walk, adjust the collar, lift "up" behind the ears.
