My husband and I have the opportunity to babysit my mom's dog Rex for 2 weeks starting Sunday. I'm super excited, but I'm pretty sure the other half is a bit nervous. He's never had dogs, so doesn't really know how to be around them. It'll also be different as I've never had a dog in town before. On the farm we just open the door and they charge around where ever they want. The whole take it for a walk idea will be interesting. Thank goodness it's supposed to get above zero next week! Rex is also scared of our cats and for good reason. Our larger cat, Hobbes, likes to hide around the corner and wait for the dog to come along. He then does the whole leap in the air thing with his paws all outstretched. He is just so darn proud of himself when the dog runs away yipping. Our schnauzer was always a favorite target since he was smaller than the cat. Hobbes has already trapped Rex in the basement once while they were visiting this summer. You can just see the cats wheels turning. "Hmmmm, if I stand right here at the top of the stairs, the dog can't come up the stairs. Let's see how long he barks before someone rescues him." (insert evil cat laugh) Hopefully, we will really like it and still get a dog this summer. Or it will really show us that we are too darn lazy for dogs and just to stick with cats!
