I like cow hooves and yes, just like rawhides and many chew treats they can be dangerous:( Raw is by far the best but I hand pick mine(hooves) and never buy any that aren't USDA. You can buy cheap ones at farm stores that are from other countries and I am sure even the USA ones have some yucky chemicals but I watch for thick even sides not flimsy thin sides. It is important to always check the hooves and moniter them while chewing:)

Cow hooves can be dangerous!  I know a person whose dog broke off a small triangle piece.  The dog wasn't doing well, xray showed a foreign object, surgery revealed this piece ready to pierce the intestine which would have, most likely, killed the dog with peratinitis.  Rawhide is ok under supervision.  The dog often only softens the leather and starts swallowing it whole.  Most of the time it is digested but it can cause a blockage.

I've gotten a couple for my boy & one for a friend's corgi. I saw no harm in it - though I don't know if they're treated with anything bad. My dog is a tosser so sometimes I have to beware of low-flying projectiles (a cow toe in the shin is a bit painful). Growing up we had horses & shoeing day = treats for the dogs. They always loved the hoof trimmings, but oy what breath it gave them :-\ The cow hoof lasts a good long time. Partially because it gets "misplaced" out of reach for awhile til I bring back out from under the whatever. My #1 chew of choice is still a good organic raw bone.
