I haven't updated this thing in so long!

Dexter is neutered!!! Yes, finally, right? We took him to the spay/neuter clinic (due to their convenient hours) and heard that they did a great job from multiple people who had brought their dogs there or spays and neuters.

They said he did well during the procedure but that he had runny poops afterward. I can't imagine how, we followed the pre-surgery orders. :( My BF went to pick him up and said his backside was covered in dried poop, and when he asked them about it they told him that he had an "accident" in the kennel and that they couldn't clean him or give him a bath because they used water-soluble stitches on his incision. So he brought him home and with a wet cloth wiped his bottom down (which I thought should have been done at the clinic, but whatever...).

When I came home from work he had been home for a few hours already. They had given him some medication at the clinic for pain but my BF was worried that it was wearing off. When I walked in poor Dex stumbled up to me. I sat on the floor and he curled up in my lap and began to whimper. Q_____Q My poor little guy! I snuggled him while he took a nap.

Luckily the whole thing went over pretty smooth. He ate and drank like normal, and though he was a little sleepier than he seemed fine enough. He did get a mild infection on his incision site, which warranted the use of an Elizabethan collar. He got it off MANY times and finally we had to use a leash harness and a thousand zip ties to keep it on him so he wouldn't lick at it any more.

Now it is full healed! He is just as wild and crazy as ever. He enjoyed his first real snow with my friend Laura, managed to chew open his puzzle ball (the one we normally hide cheerios in when we're gone) and managed to open the baby gate twice. I am unsure whether he figured it out, or if it was all on accident.

He is the sweetest dog. His personality has really shone through. He is protective against other dogs, but he is very affectionate to strangers. He loves kids, chewing his bones and curling up on the couch with me. When either I or my boyfriend leave he waits by the door for us to return.

^___^ He is just a joy to have, and I love to spoil him rotten. He got to have his first puppy boutique appointment the other day as well, is used to nail grinding, and actually sits still when I furminate him.
