I was wondering what a good dry dog food would be to maintain urine Ph levels? We took Mandy to the vet today because she had blood in her urine...she had an accident the other day and I saw it and there was a white piece of something in her urine...it was hard. The vet said it was probably crystals. They tested her urine and no infection, but there were signs of crystals and he said she may beve been developing stones. He said that we needed to change her food. We have been feeding her Canidae. I have been searching for something that will help maintain Ph levels, but I haven't found anything yet. I would like to get her something natural if I can. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Aloha gave you very good advice....since your vet chose s/d I have to guess they didn't identify the crystals or they would have picked c/d or u/d . ...Lexus had bladder issues that did lead to stones and once they were removed and she was put on u/d as she had oxilated crystals (rarer that stuvite, I'm told) and we restricted treats she's been fine. ...Some vets are getting away from ScD precription and using Royal Canin diet for urniary issues....don't be afraid to ask your vet questions mine always allows extra time for me because I AWAYS ask questions about what's going on with each of my kids and why this med over that and are there alternatives....good luck

Thank-you so much, and yes, I looked at the ingredients of the Hill's diet and it is not as good as the other food I used, but if it is to make Mandy thirsty, then fine.

The treatment he gave us was he put her on canned food (Hill's Prescription Diet;s/d Canine), also Previcox for inflamation, and Tribrissen is her anti-biotic. I found the invoice and it did not say what kind of crystals they were. I do not think he said.
Thank-you for your help!!

I do not know what kind of crystals. I cannot find the invoice from the vet right now. The vet said they were a precursor to stones if that helps and her urine Ph was 8.

We just changed from Canidae to Innova about 2 months ago. Not sure about the Ph levels but Lola loves it and is doing awesome health wise.

I know that Canidae recently changed their formula and it may not be as good as it used to be.

We feed Blue Buffalo and it is a natural homeopathic dog food. My two seem to really enjoy it and they seem healthier. We just changed over in September. You could look into Blue Buffalo. We give it two paws up.
