Hey all,

Rowdy has recently been having major eye goopies, and I wonder what it's from. They aren't really any particular color that would make me thing anything is wrong... but it's been rather windy this last week and my allergies have been going haywire... could that be what his are from?

I usually just wipe them away with a damp cloth... that's ok right?

Any information will be greatly appreciated :)

I took my puppy zeus to the vet for his yucky eyes and he said it was allergies and gave him some special eye drops for 7 days which seemed to clear it up right away :) it was about $23 dollars for the drops, but so worth it as nothing else was making it better, I even tried visine AC before taking him with no luck, so maybe your vet can give you some of those

Quin gets them also when it is windy, but I think hers is from the dust cause she is so low to the ground and we walk on dirt roads, dirt not gravel:) my vet recommended eye drops, not Visine, Refresh Plus the kind in the one use packaging because they don't have preservatives in them.

Gwynn often had clogged tear ducts when she was younger.  Hot wet cloth compresses -- put a wet cloth in microwave, test on your own lips first -- as hot as the dog can stand -- time-consuming, works.  This opens the lachrymal ducts.  It eventually went away.

Probably just seasonal allergies- you could ask your vet if it's safe to give Rowdy some Benadryl and see if it stops.  Some other signs of allergies in dogs are consistent scratching of the ears and skin and chewing on their paws.  But then again, if it's just his eyes, it's probably something that's blowing around in the wind

Hi Kayla,

It's seasonal allergies, check out the allergy report in your area, it's quite high at the moment. You can continue to wipe them away with a damp cloth :)

You may want to consider giving him bottled water for a couple days and see if that helps. I worked as a groomer for three years, and we would recommend that for dogs with goopies. It's not always a fix all, but dogs that are getting to many minerals in their water sometimes get those extra eye boogers. I hope they clear up for you two soon, Rowdy probably doesn't enjoy them either.
