Thanks for the input! I will probably give BB a try first, since it is the easiest for me to get and I have had a lot of good feedback about that food from other pet owners. TOTW and Canidae will be my backups!

Luigi is on Freedom. He seems to like that one the best. He eats it up. He also gets blue buffalo dry food to help with his teething. I haven't had a problem with either.

congrats on getting a puppy! thats always so exciting :)

there are many options out there to choose from. everyone has their own preference and after being on this site and working at a vets office i learned that one food may be great for some dogs but your dog may not be able to handle it from it being to rich or she may be allergic to it.

i started baden out on wellness large breed puppy food. he did fantastic on it. no runny poop, he has energy and was clearly healthy. he grew slowly, which is why u should feed an all life stages food or larger breed puppy. BUT once he was a year and 5months i tried to switch him over the lamb and barley flavor of wellness and could not handle it as it was too rich. i also tried blue buffalo lamb and rice, he couldnt handle that either. so i tried organix which is an excellent food (u can see bananas, carrots, peas and apples chopped up) BUT he allergic to chicken -__- <---this is how i felt at pet stores lol  so now hes on a beef flavored food that petsmart makes called simply nourish. i can get a 15 pound bag of that for $22 so its cheaper than most brands and has great ingredients.

Definitely had success with the life protection because that is what we have been using the longest. My dog never has a problem eating all her food and she really doesnt seem to prefer one over the other, we only recently starting using Freedom so I dont have as much background with that one.

So you had success with the life protection? That's great! As far as life protection vs freedom, did you or your dogs have any preference?

Marissa - we were using the Life Protection Formula which is different from the basics and more recently have tried the Freedom (grain free) version. I like both of them and have nothing negative to review on Blue Buffalo. Boo's coat got so much smoother and more shiny when we started using them and she also itched a lot less. Our corgi has some seasonal allergies but we could tell a big difference when switching her food to Blue that they seemed to irritate her less often.

I work at a local pet store so I'm not worried about the price since I will be able to get it at cost.

I just found out we will be able to get Taste of the Wild, haven't checked about Canidae yet.

Shanna- were you feeding the regular BB puppy food? I was thinking about using either Freedom (grain free) or the Basics (limited ingredients).

We started with Science Diet (what our breeder was feeding our pup) and then made the transition to Blue Buffalo and have been so happy with the results (she has now been on BB for 3 1/2 years starting with puppy and moving to adult formula). I think it is a great brand but I haven't tried any other grain free brands so I'm sure those other recommendations are excellent as well.

Canidae is great! Their ALS is a nicely formulated food, I have also tried their PURE line and found it to be very nice with my dogs. Easy change over between the Canidae and Nutrisource's PureVita. I haven't tried Blue but worked with it around clients, a lot o them complained about the price. And agreeably, there are better foods with the same price tag or better. I used puppy food for my puppies, always. I don't think an all life stage is appropriate all the time but it depends on you protein and fat contents. All dogs are different though :) heck, I started Buddha on Science diet lamb and rice puppy and he did very well. Although, now red eat foods are very touchy to feed him.
