Baron ate a large portion of my living room floor while I was at work today. My husband is ready to evict both of us. What can I do to stop him?

How old is Baron? Any dog under a year old should be crated or penned in a safe place while left alone. Mine ate part of my windowsill when he was a puppy. I said to myself "I'm just running upstairs for a minute. What could he do in that short a time?" I got my answer. Our house was less than a year old at the time. Live and learn!

Once you start giving him more freedom, start with only 10 or 15 minutes and extend it gradually over many weeks from there.

Have the surgeon suture his mouth closed! No, seriously....get a crate. Not a soft sided one, but a plastic one, the kind you can put them on a plane in. Seanna chewed her way out of the soft sided one. Tell your husband it too shall pass....Seanna ate a hole in the bottom of our brand new $2000 couch we hadn't had two weeks when she was about 3 months old. In her defense though, she was only trying to get a rawhide that had rolled under it. I explained to my hubby that she couldn't get it out any other way because she didn't have any legs to reach with. He didn't find the humour.
Kennel training her though was a godsend later when she tore her ACL--keeping her quiet was very easy as she was used to, and loved her "den"....

Definitely a crate! After one of mine (previous dog not my corgis) decided the couch tasted good I brought home a crate. Sam's idea of a NFL season pass is good or if you're like me just a promise not to complain about football on TV would work.

While I was busy cleaning my son's room, Rufus was removing the carpet in another corner. I thought he had a chewy toy. I would suggest a crate while he's not under your direct supervision. That's Rufus' fate from now on.
