Hoorah!

So i been working on a few Tricks with ace and am very proud of how smart the little guy is =)

He came knowing sit and with in a few days i taught him laydown with tiny hot dog tid bits.. since at the time we didnt have chicken bits and he wouldnt do the tricks with a regular puppy treat

I taught him Stay with meal time so now he sits and stays and waits till i tell him its ok to eat.. i feel guilty for it because i feel if its meal time its meal time but i was told its best to train domanace this way and now he stays when i tell him to because of this =)

he sorta knows Sit pretty But its confusing with Pray sometimes because he still is unbalanced but he knows the difference i think =) since when i say sit pretty he doesnt put his paws on me anymore

and the other night he suprised me with rollover.. i had been working on that treat for over a month but he just wanted the treat then and there when he layed down the little stinker =) But he rolledover and got so much praise form it he does it well now

Now we are working on Shake... though i wonder if i should since he likes putting his paws all over everyone and im scared it will just encourage him to do so more

Im also teaching him combat crawl, our elderly golden retriver mix used to do it until he knee blew out poor baby... the things that dog used to Do would blow your mind lol =) Hopefully by this summer me and Ace can enter our Local Dog Talent Show and Blow everyone out of the water lol =) Im really proud of this little guy He is so Smart and I know with Obediance class just around the corner me and Him will be great business partners lol >w> no but seriously he is smart lol I mean every owner feels this way about their pets i know lol We got Buffy at 3 *our Retriever mix* that was over 10 years ago and the only command she knew was Sit, We taught her how to jump through a hoop, combat crawl, roll over, shake, high five, Lay down, play dead, balance biscut on the tip of her nose... I see Ace being as smart as her =) if not smarter but i like to think of them equally Since Buffy has been my sister for 10 years no one is smarter and wiser then her... atleast my opinion

Oh ya come bathtime ace knows what spread 'em means lol i know its funny sounding but because our tumb walls are jut the right hight i started putting him against the wall side fo the tub and told him spread em each time i put his paws up to wash him now he is starting to get it and does spread em now lol

I knew having a puppy would bring enjoyment but i couldnt remember how fun it was to teach a dog tricks since well like i said its been over 10 years since we got buffy and started her teachings =)

Well now its off to search locally to see if anyone does Agility Classes =) i wanna see how well Ace does in that class =)

Sit the dog before you. Show a treat in one hand, then hide your hands behind your back, pretending to scramble the treats. Then proffer your closed fists to the dog.
You must, is some way, prompt the dog to choose the empty fist: present it sooner, or closer, but not enough so the audience will notice. Perhaps you can have more treat smell on that hand.
When you show the empty hand, palm-up, the dog chooses the other hand.
You proudly proclaim: "It never takes her more than two guesses!"
After awhile, the dog will wise-up, and you'll have to get clever.

To start get him to run with you and then quickly stop and say freeze, when he stops and looks up at you can reward. Then when he knows the "come" command you ask him to come and simultaneously get him to freeze on his way. Than you can even teach them to sit with the command. This makes off leash easier and helps stop then when they try to get into trouble.
