I like reading conversations on Corgi-L and find a lot of it is insightful. Some of it is just downright irritating though, especially this response to a conversation I read.

> long enough for me to notice that the pups had tails-yet
> looked like Pems. What do you think?

I think they are Pems.

As for the tails, it depends on where they are. Some countries now have docking bans and the Pems in those countries have tails.

And there are "breeders" (I use the term loosely in this case) here in the US who have bowed to the AR agenda and don't dock tails any more. IMO, they are not reputable because they are not breeding to the standard which says the tails should be docked.

Why is it wrong for someone who would be a reputable breeder, who isn't showing, to keep tails on their corgis? Why would it automatically be them "bowing" to the AR agenda?

Maybe they're just not "bowing" to show agenda?

(I would also like to say that I think that tails can be cute, and so can fluffies.)

I so love Sarah C.'s comment. All Corgis deserve welfare and love whether tailed or not and I have seen some, oh I hate to say ugly, but for how they are suppose to look, well their ugly but O'my goodness..their personalities were to die for. Comical, loyal, intelligent and owners who adored them as much as the dog adored them. They made me laugh and thought they were wonderful but when people are profiting from this w/o putting anything into it and being responsible and grab at your innocent hearts to fill their accounts..I see red. I just posted yesterday a link to an article on tail docking and you could vote or comment on your opinion of it on my Facebook acct. I drew up quite a little discussion just like this one. And because of that feel drained by it. LOL I think most of the points of views have been hit on here so I will not comment further. ; )

Kelly, that is why I said "I apologize if I misunderstood your statement" in my post. Thank you for clearing that up. :)

Actually the gist that I get from Kelly's post is that she doesn't think people should try to make misfits.
Personally I think that misfits are only cute when they're accidents.

Hi Kelly,
It's when you closed with this line "Bottom line, reputable breeders follow the standard. If they don't want to follow the standard, they shouldn't breed.". To me this is saying that corgis that don't follow the breed standard should not exist in your ideal world. I apologize if I misunderstood your statement. I love my little "misfit" dearly :)

We have a large social corgi community here in San Diego, and we'll typically have 50-60 corgis in attendance. I really enjoy seeing the variety and getting to know these wonderful creatures. I know corgis that did not come from established breeders that are lovely, healthy and have wonderful personalities. I also know corgis from established breeders that have health or behavior problems. The mysteries of life are grand and amazing.

Kelly, I can see you have very strong feelings on this matter, and I can understand that. However, this site embraces corgis of all variety, and we value them equally. We have fluffies, we have corgis with "too much white", corgis with tails (as my Sidney does) and yes, even corgis of mixed pedigree. We all love our corgis regardless of how closely they meet breed standard. We strive to maintain an environment of support, encouragement and respect.

Christy, I think your position is the one I feel most closest with. If the PWC is healthy, the breeder does testing and all of that, but doesn't dock a tail, why does that make a breeder less reputable than another? Producing healthy dogs and keeping them in a good environment seems reputable enough to me.

I quess it comes down to what you beleive is Reputable. I think that docking and ear cropping are going to become things of the past sooner than later. Banfield the Pet Hospital which is pretty big in the Northwest has already said piblicly they will no longer provide these services on asthetic purpose's only. Tails or no tails I want my pups to be heathly and from well balaced sire's and dams. If the breeder no-longer docks that I think is going to provide me with a heathly puppy then oh well. Sam Tsang posted a link to a video showing docking in a discussion ...before then I just never gave any thought to the how of docking and assumed the pup's were given something so they wouldn't feel anything, well the video proved that all wrong... poor little things crying out in pain =(

Agree with Kelly.
If it's a breeder I'm not familiar with and their pem pups have tails, I usually either assume ignorance or neglect for the breed. (I.E. Had a litter that they didn't plan for or prepare for, or bred their pems for adorable puppies and weren't aware they are born with tails.)
