One thing I figured out about Corgi's really really quick is that THEY EAT POO! Addy doesn't usually eat her own poo - she goes for other creatures' poo. And she has brought it inside before too - its nasty!

The best thing I have found to do is to simply watch her carefully while I'm walking her. She gets a yank on the leash if her nose starts to go lower then the tops of the blades of grass in our field. Sometimes, when she smells something particularly "yummy", this turns into a bit of a tug of war - but I always prevail.

Another strategy I have found helpful is a "mouth check" when we get ready to come into the house, especially if I have even the slightest suspicion she may have something.

If I do catch her with something then she immediately gets her teeth brushed - which she hates - serving as both removing the nastiness from her mouth and giving her some reinforcement that eating that stuff has consequences.

Face it. Corgis eat XXXX. How can such endearing creatures have such revolting habits?
Just teach your dog the customary etiquette: no cat litter crumbs on your whiskers when you kiss your human on the lips, and everything's cool.

any dog food that you can find in your local grocery store is not good. Beneful, Purina, Iams, all of the ones you can pick up when you are getting your own food is not on the best of foods lists for pets. There is one that I am trying right now called Taste of Wild. If you read the ingredients it is all meats and then you add in the potatoes which help the digestive tract and help dogs go to the bathroom. you have to think of it like this....carbs are not the best for us....so fillers like grains and wheats are just the same for our little friends!

lol Ok sorry but I have been fighting with this since I have brought my Kali home at 12 weeks and she is now 20 weeks.. I have done EVERYTHING under the sun and even talked to the vet.. She said its a bad habit that they get.. Cause she is now getting my 5 yr old Border Collie doing it.. So with everything that I have done the ONLY thing that has worked is hot sauce! And I mean the hottest hot sauce you can find! You put it on it.. Just let the poop with the hot sauce sit and they will walk up to it and smell it but will not eat it.. We are on day 2 doing this.. Im going to keep up with it for about 5 days and then stop doing it and see what happens.. I have done the pills forbid, pineapple, pumpkin and even the meat tender. Dont work! I have a tuff puppie! lol Good Luck

I have heard that dogs eating there own poop is often something missing in their diet. I've seen this on the Dog Whisperer and "It's Me Or The Dog". Someone had posted this site: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ in another blog post. It really helped me change my dogs food to a better food. Even though bags list nutritional values - there could be something that Buddy is missing or he could even have an allergy.

I feed my "Buddy" Beneful, Playful Life, and I always thought that was one of the better dog foods, with all the nutritional factors they have listed on the bags. What I don't get is this happened tonight, right after I fed him, so he shouldn't have been hungry, but because we live in Minnesota, and it is friggon freezing outside....lol, we have not been faithful in picking up his duties right after he's done, and it's always the frozen one's that he goes after, which really baffles me, since they are frozen, they should have no smell, so what is attracting him to it? I appreciate your responses, Thank You and hugs to your sofie girl!

i spoke with a company that deals with foods that have less fillers. this might be something that you would want to look into. something that has less rice and wheats. there is a new food that petco carries that is called wellness. they have "simple" formulas that you might want to check out! i hope this info helps!

Have you spoken to your vet to rule out medical reasons why he might be doing this? Sometimes dogs eat their own waste if they are eating poor quality food, full of grains, which is hard for them to digest. They smell the proteins in the feces and eat them. Luckily for me, my dogs have never done this, but I have read that feeding a small amount of fresh pineapple daily (be sure it's not sweetened) might discourage this habit. There are commercial products that you can feed and some that you put on the piles to discourage "snacking" also. Are you picking up the stools as soon as he leaves them? We save our used sandwich baggies to use as "poop bags" and take them out whenever we take Sophie out so we can pick up her offerings immediately after she goes. If they aren't available, your dog won't be able to eat them. Good luck!
